ID Johnson

ID Johnson wears many hats: mother, wife, editor, tutu maker, and writer, to name a few. Some of her favorite people are the two little girls who often implore that she "watch me!" in the middle of forming finely crafted sentences, that guy who dozes off well before she closes her laptop, and those furry critters at the foot of the bed at night. If she could do anything in the world, she would live in Cinderella's castle and write love stories all day while sipping Dr. Pepper and eating calorie-less Hershey's kisses. For now, she'll stick to her Dallas-area home and spending her days with the characters she's grown to love. After 16 years in education, Johnson has embarked on a new career, one as a full-time writer. This will allow her to write at least one book per month, which means many of your favorite character will have new tales to tell in the upcoming months. Look for two spin-off series of The Clandestine Saga, one staring Cassidy Findley and another involving backstories for your favorite characters. Johnson will also produce several new historical romance novels and a new sweet contemporary Christian romance series as well.

September Is Education - ID Johnson

    Introduction

Never stop learning! I remember being a high school student and hearing a speaker who came to our school talk about how she was constantly doing her best to learn something new every day. She said she didn’t want to become stagnant, so even though she was a professional nurse, she still strived to learn something new in an area of interest every single day. That was a new concept to me--becoming stagnant. Since that time, I’ve adopted her mindset as my own. I strive to learn something new every day as well. When that knowledge comes from God, and I can use it to better my relationship with Him or help someone else become closer to God, it’s of even more value to me.

This month, we’ll explore how to continue to grow in our knowledge of the Lord and use that information to bring others to the Kingdom of Heaven. Each day, we’ll explore a new verse, I’ll let you know how it applies to my own life through a true story, and then we’ll talk about how you can apply this verse to your own life. So if you’re ready, let’s get ready to explore what the Bible has to say about knowledge.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

    Romans 12:2

Sometimes, it is hard to hear what God is calling us to do. Some people are even of the opinion that He doesn’t speak to us at all any more. I tend to disagree. In fact, at one point in my life, I heard His voice so loudly and clearly, it was as if I wasn’t alone in my car.

I was driving home from my job in Houston. If you’ve ever lived in or visited Houston, you’ll have no trouble picturing the back up at rush hour on I-10. There are a lot of miserable commutes in this world, but that one was one of the worst. There was plenty of time to look around at my surroundings with the stop and go traffic, which gave me a chance to read the billboards.

One of them pictured a small child and posed the question, Will you be my teacher?

Even though I’d studied history in college, and people spent most of my formative years telling me I would make a great teacher, it had never crossed my mind that I would even enjoy teaching until I saw that bulletin board. Then, there was no doubt in my mind that God was speaking to me, that I was supposed to become a teacher.

As soon as I got home, I looked into it and discovered that the very next day was the cut-off for getting my paperwork turned in for that semester. Everything worked out, including the fact that I just happened to have an official copy of my college transcript, and within a month, I had started my teaching program.

I was an educator for sixteen years and loved (almost) every single day of it. I certainly loved working with the kids. Not only was I certain God had called me to education, He guided my steps every single move I made, putting me exactly where I needed to be and placing the children I needed to work with in my path.

Education is a calling, just as the ministry, leadership, healthcare, and so many other careers are callings. This month, we’ll be primarily focused on why it is important to continue to educate ourselves, but without the educators who have guided us along our own paths through life, we wouldn’t be capable of reading, thinking, making critical judgments, and evaluating the information we take in. Following our calling can truly be transformative, and I thank God every day for calling me to go back and continue my education so that I could become an educator.

No matter where you are in your life, it’s never too late to go back and choose a different path, especially if you feel that God is leading you to do so. Don’t be afraid to listen for His voice. If He has a message for you, you will hear it. Whether you answer it or not is entirely up to you. If you are ready and willing to hear what He has to say, today is as good a day as any to say to the Teacher, Let me hear your call.

For the protection of wisdom is like the protection of money, and the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it.

    Ecclesiastes 7:12

When I was younger, I heard about a man who memorized the entire Bible. This sounded impossible to me. I couldn’t imagine anyone memorizing something so large. Whether it’s true or not, I couldn’t say, but what spoke to me even more than the fact that his man may have actually done such an amazing feat was his reasoning as to why he felt this was necessary. He said that people might be able to take the Book away from him, but if God’s word was
