    Love Trance - Lisa Bonham

    Chapter 1: The Impossible

Christine Morgan wasn't in a very favorable mood when she finally made it back to her house, and her mood didn't improve when she saw that chocolate cake sitting on her front porch. She stalked into her apartment, ignoring the epitome of annoyance, only to step out a few seconds later and head straight for that one place she had laid off as forbidden territory to her in just a day with the forbidden cake in hand. She quickly swished a hand through her dark curls before she glided it against the doorbell in a manner of urgency.

She received no reply, but this didn't seem to surprise Christine, as she hadn't expected anything less from a man who was so quick to fault others for things that were out of their control, as though he had nothing bad on him. She pressed the doorbell a little more aggressively this time, but still no reply. Christine calmed her angry nerves and looked around the place, noticing for the first time that the door was slightly open. In all of her anger, she hadn't noticed this crucial fact.

She pried open the door and stepped in slowly, her eyes dancing around the place as she took in the sparsely furnished sitting room that somehow managed to retain a class and beauty known only to a few elites. Christine knew it had to do with the fact that he had just moved in, but there were little things like the book shelf and little decorations shelves around the house that told her that this man wasn't one who was into extravagance. The white walls made the whole place look larger than life, which only made the long couch and large TV on the wall look minimal. She admired the little pots of flowers that were situated here and there, forgetting for a minute that she was there for something totally different to what she was currently doing.

When she finally came to, she shook her head and started looking around as she quietly called out his name. Philippe.

Christine received no reply once again and finally came to the conclusion that Phillipe Gilbert had left home with his door unlocked. A creepy smile settled on her face as the urge to snoop around his lair, calculating all of the incriminating things she could find, but she stopped herself. Christine wasn't the kind of person to invade other people's privacy in such a way, and she wasn't going to start now because of a man with whom she couldn't even deal with the feelings he aroused in her.

As she decided to turn on her heels and head out, the weight of the cake in her hand stopped her. She turned back and headed towards the bar area, where the only plausible place she could place the cake was in the form of the counter.

The moment she dropped the cake on the counter, something behind it caught her eye. Or more like someone. Christine's eyes grew wide with fear as she took in the slumped image of a shirtless Phillipe Gilbert, who was sitting with his back against the counter and his legs sprawled widely about him. A discarded bottle of tequila lay at his feet. Before Christine could think, she was already halfway around the counter and the next thing she knew, she was bending at his feet and trying to wake the heavily intoxicated man, who thankfully wasn't hurt.

Christine raised her head and held it up with one hand as she urgently used her other hand to tap him across the cheek. Men rarely get drunk around her, and there wasn't a special lesson taught on how to deal with an inebriated man whose looks with his eyes closed and muscled body were far too heart stopping for her. Christine was about to give up her quest to make sure he was fine when Phillipe's eyelids suddenly popped open, revealing those unsettling blue eyes of his. She unconsciously stepped back as she was caught off guard.

In all his drowsiness, Phillipe knew he had to be dreaming because there was no other way to describe the fact that he was staring right into those foxy eyes that had had his mind going crazy since he met the woman called Christine Morgan. He wasn't surprised because it wouldn't be the first time she appeared in one of his dreams, but this time Phillipe wondered why she appeared so real. He soon concluded that it had to be because they now lived a few feet away from each other.

Phillipe smiled as he reached out a hand to her, cupping her cheeks that felt really warm against his hand. Christine was too shaken by the effect his touch had on her at first to do anything, and when she finally came to realize, she flinched and wanted to move back from the drunk man, but his next words stopped her.

Are you starting to even hate me in your dreams now? Phillipe asked, his voice coming out quite normal, as Christine had expected. You used to be so caring. What changed?

    Do you care? Christine
