Chapter 1: The Proposition

Amanda Ellsworth walked swiftly down the hallway of her practice, with an agile grace known only to her. The smile on her face gave off the vibe that she just marked down another successful surgery.

Even though going in and out of the theater is no longer a new thing to her, it still makes her feel giddy that she could do this after much research and hard work on her part. It was beautiful seeing her theory practicalized. She gave a brisk nod to the nurse at the reception desk and crossed the corner that led to her office area, knowing fully well that she was done for the day.

Dr. Ellsworth. The breathless voice and hurried footsteps behind her told her that it was none other than her new personal assistant, Miss. Davis calling onto her and trying to catch up with her.

Amanda slowed down her pace, crossing her arms across her chest before she asked the one question whose answer, she was more than aware of. So, what else is there on my schedule for today?

You have an appointment with Dr. Jacques Gilbert at the Wentworth and Gilbert Memorial hospital, Miss. Davis answered, still as breathless as she had been before.

Amanda felt that familiar tug of random heat that she now associated with the thoughts of Jacques spearing through her with a speed she wasn't ready to reckon. Her appointment with Dr. Jacques Gilbert. As if she needed to be reminded of that fact. She hadn't been able to get it off her mind, at least she was able to keep a cool head during the surgery she had to do, but before and after that which is now, thoughts of Jacques filled her mind. Where on Earth went the woman who barely even remembered dates nights?

Well, this wasn't a date night, what they had was an appointment, maybe that's what made this more gnawing.

It's been a week since the conference, a week since Amanda made the grand decision of choosing the adventurous Jacques over Carter who breathes nothing but safety for her, and a week since Jacques said he'd be counting the minutes till they see, and she hasn't still hasn't seen Jacques since then because they have both been busy doing lots of things. They did keep in touch through calls and texts though and that doesn't lessen the impact Jacques had on her, his voice alone did crazy things to her and now that she was going to meet him today, Amanda had no idea how she was going to handle herself around him.

She would have to figure out a way to keep her cool and not let things get out of hand like it did back at the conference, not like she wouldn't want that to happen. Amanda relished that moment with passion and had found herself daydreaming about it for the past week. But there's the fact that they were meeting at his workplace, so she has no other option but to have things under control.

Thank you, Miss. Davis, you can retire for the day, Amanda said as she opened the door to her office, sashaying in. I hope you left next week's Friday and Saturday open as I asked?

Maybe it sounded a little irresponsible that she'd be clearing two days out of her schedule for next week when she has already cleared the whole of tomorrow out, but Amanda was learning to do something these days, and that was living her life a little.

Yes, I did, Dr. Ellsworth. Miss. Davis awarded her a self-assured smile. It's for the family reunion you said.

Yes. Amanda smiled, looking up from her computer at Miss. Davis who was glaring at the iPad in her hand. Would you like to come along?

Miss. Davis's eyes went wide with shock. No, I could not do that, it's a family reunion, only if you feel I could, I wouldn't mind going...

It's settled then, you'd come along with me, Miss. Davis. It's only natural you should since you're my personal assistant, Amanda concluded firmly and stood up from her seat. That would be all.

Miss. Davis gave a quick nod and headed out of the large office, leaving Amanda to brood over what she'd wear for her meeting with Jacques. After much thought, she decided she wouldn't overdo it by changing her clothes, she looked more than good in what she had on now.

She ran her hand down the length of her blue form-fitting skirt that had a little slit starting from right above her right knee. The white shirt she had on wasn't in the least bit looking conservative, her getup looked amazing and breathed the confidence she felt in herself just like any other day.

Amanda picked up her makeup purse and headed into her bathroom for the regular warpaint she has after her last surgery of the day. She piled her blonde curls into a loose bun to give it a lazy look so as not to make it seem like she was trying too hard. Once Amanda was feeling good enough with it all, she gave a call to her driver and right then and there, her whole nerve kicked up on high alert once again.

She would be seeing Jacques today and as scary as it sounds, she missed him, it was as though he had become a bigger part of her than she was ready to admit. She still couldn't tell where exactly all this would lead,
