    Divine Elixir - Lisa Bonham

    Chapter 1: Endless Desires

Amanda Ellsworth took a deep breath when she stepped out of the theatre, got rid of her surgical gloves, and took off her nose mask. One surgery down. This was the longest surgery she had had to perform in a while now, and she was very proud of it. What made it all the more satisfying was the beautiful fact that it was volunteer work.

Her father had been willing to take the victims of the car accident that happened a week ago, and Amanda hadn't hesitated to give her hand in assistance. Many people seemed to be doing that, including Aiden, which seemed weird because he usually didn't care about anything that had to do with the family. But it did feel fulfilling knowing that a lot of people were getting help.

The only thing that might've made this seem harder than it was supposed to be was that John Warner owned the foundation in charge of these victims. This meant that sooner or later, she would run into him, and she might not be able to resist him as she had done last week.

Amanda had tried her best to avoid him after last week. In fact, she ensured to avoid anything that would bring back last week's incident, stretching up to Mary's betrayal. But ignoring John or his allure was pretty tough even when he wasn't present. She knew his presence would cause plenty of damage.

Can you tell me the time? Amanda asked Susan as they both walked toward her former office, which she was using for the meantime.

It's 3:34 pm, Dr. Ellsworth, Susan answered in her usual calm tone.

Okay, thank you. You can retire for now since I have nothing to lose planned for today, Amanda told Susan, who smiled from ear to ear.

Okay, good day, Dr. Ellsworth. With a slight bow, Susan ambled away.

Have fun on your date, Amanda called out to her. Susan turned back immediately with her eyes wide open. Before she could ask the obvious question, Amanda answered. Don't ask me how. You're not very secretive.

Susan chuckled, looking a lot more chuffed. Thank you, Dr. Ellsworth.

Amanda nodded at her and walked toward the lounge to get something to drink. There she met Dr. Walter, who looked like he had just got out of another surgery himself. Amanda gave him a casual greeting, which he replied to, and went on to pour herself a glass of water.

It's nice to see you walking around the Ellsworth hospital once again, Dr. Ellsworth, Dr. Walter said fondly. Amanda smiled. She knew how fond of her most of the doctors here were, but there were a few among them who didn't like her.

Amanda turned to him with her cup of water halfway to her mouth. Yeah, it's nice. It's only for a little while, though.

Dr. Walter stood up, having rested well enough. It's still nice all the same. See you around.

Amanda smiled at his retreating back and dropped the disposable cup in a trash can, heading out. The moment she was out, Amanda met with her very own undoing in the form of an elegant John Warner walking toward her father's office area.

She stopped in her tracks and glued herself to the wall in a bid to calm down the fury of emotions that sped through her and to make sure he didn't see her. When he was safely out of sight, she let out a breath of relief and quickly headed for her office.

But it did look like Amanda wasn't in the best of luck today because the person she saw waiting at her office receiving area was none other than John Warner. She stopped in her tracks as she felt his eyes glue her to where she was. He was looking at her in that usual way that set all her worries aside. Amanda noticed for the first time how casual and comfy he looked in a pair of black pants and a white polo shirt. The polo's short sleeves accentuated his muscled arms, which only went on to surprise her because she had no idea how a man of his age could still be this fit, handsome, and make her body react to him in such a way.

John stood up the moment he saw Amanda, glad he had decided to drop by her office because Richard had another appointment and because all he could think about at the moment was how hungry he was for her. He sent her one of his reassuring smiles as her eyes wandered all over his body. He always knew that Amanda wasn't left out in this heady attraction between them and that had given him the courage he needed. He wasn't going to keep pretending there was nothing there and let this lifetime opportunity pass him by. He would take his chances at being happy before he thought of what anyone might say.

I thought I'd come check up on you and also thank you for all you have been doing lately, John said, sauntering toward her and stopping right in front of her. His hand stopped in midair as he
