Chapter 1

Icouldn’t suppress my gasp of wonder as I entered the lobby of the six-star resort. I could get used to something like that, and with my plans for the future, that was exactly what was going to happen. I came to the Bahamas for an international conference, but I wasn’t going to limit myself to just that. I was going to take the opportunity to have the time of my life.

There were lots of other people bustling around me—no doubt more guests there for the conference—but check-in was a breeze and I had my luggage sent to my suite. I didn’t bother checking my room, and instead, decided to explore a little and see what wonders the place had to offer. There was a restaurant, a casino, and several luxurious lounges, but what drew my attention the most was the outdoor pool area. The pool was enormous, and the area led directly to the hotel’s private beach. Best of all was the poolside bar. The menu showed all the usual drinks and cocktails I was familiar with, but there were pages of exotic, local cocktails that could keep me busy for days. I couldn’t identify what was in them from the names or pictures, and there were many whose names I couldn’t even pronounce.

What can I get you, Miss? the bartender asked. He was a handsome man, with golden, tanned skin, golden hair that hung to his shoulders, and gorgeous eyes as green as emeralds. There was something naturally seductive about the curve of his mouth, and I could feel heat coursing through my body that had absolutely nothing to do with the tropical sun. I could see he was trying not to be too obvious as he stared at me, and I had to smile at that. The dress I wore was light and summery, and would normally be considered quite modest, but it hugged my slim waist tightly and accentuated all my wonderful curves in just the right places.

A frozen margarita, please, I replied. I thought that maybe something cold would help me to calm down a little.

I glanced around the bar to distract myself and saw an elderly couple—probably in their mid-sixties—holding hands and talking, the love in their eyes as young and fresh as they were old. Further along was a group of very young men downing one shot after another, as if they were going out of fashion. They were rowdy, a little too loud, and seemed to be having the time of their lives. When my eyes reached the opposite side of the bar counter, my breath caught in my chest for a moment. Sitting there, nursing an amber-colored drink, sat an incredibly handsome man. He had pitch black hair, cropped short on the sides and a little longer on the top, a firm jawline that was begging to be traced by my fingers, and dark eyes that managed to sparkle with so many things. He was wearing a tight-fitting suit that did wonders for his physique and there was absolutely nothing to counter the mischievous smile he had on his chiseled face. I could see that he was quite fit, and his skin was beautifully tanned.

As I was deciding on how to approach the gorgeous man, the bartender returned, and handed me my drink. I noticed his eyes following every move as I brought the salt-rimmed glass to my lips, where his gaze finally rested. The intensity in his eyes was enough to drive anyone crazy, and I tried not to squirm. He absentmindedly picked up a rag and began to wipe the counter. He deftly leaned in, as if trying to wipe along the edge of my side on the counter, and he bent forward very, very close to me.

My shift ends in two hours, Miss, he whispered, his warm breath ghosting over my suddenly sensitive ear. But for someone as lovely as you, I would be more than happy to provide any assistance after hours, if you’d like.

I was surprised, but
