About this ebook

Kimberly:

I don't play typical games but the ones I play, I always win.

Regardless of how taboo our relationship might become. I'm all in.

The "distractions" I've had with Eric have opened my heart and mind properly without needing to find decent lovers for my burning desires. His European background with constant experimentation as a norm has entertained me. For now.

I am clear on my pursuit of love and my flourishing career path. Michael has captivated my heart entirely with his energetic and superior intelligence and distinguished presence. I feel dazzling, respected, at ease and so happy around him.

I need to protect Michael, it is in my job and my heart…

Before we can move on, I will unfold the truth about Susan and Kevin. I know I am onto the real truth…

Not long now.

Billionaire Patient Love - Lisa Bonham

    Chapter 1

    Kelly

As I walk up to the entrance of La Festin, I can’t decide if I’m more excited or anxious. This new restaurant has been the center of local gossip for weeks now, and it’s finally the grand opening. La Festin is supposedly an incredible restaurant that dominates the fine dining world of Europe, and the first chain finally made it to America, so of course there’s been a lot of hype about it.

Even from a distance, you can tell this place is at a whole new level. The restaurant isn’t in the city itself, but on top of a hill near one of the wealthier areas of Malibu. It’s a two-story building designed to resemble those old, traditional French buildings, and there’s a bit of open space around it. This space is being used for the most beautiful garden I’ve ever seen.

Christopher opens the ornately decorated door for me, and something flutters and twists in my stomach. While the restaurant is the source of all my excitement, Christopher is the source of my anxiety. It’s been nearly a month since Christopher told me about his son, Bryce, and I’m still rattled about that. I have no problem with the fact that Christopher has a son at all. My problem is that Christopher hid that fact from me even though we’d been dating for half a year, and I had to practically force the truth out of him. I’ve needed some space for a while, and this is the first date we’ve been on since. A part of me still wonders if this was the right choice. Is this too soon?

Kimberly notices my hesitation and puts a supportive hand on my shoulder. I immediately feel a little better. Kimberly’s been firmly standing by my side from the beginning, and I don’t know how I would have made it through these last few weeks without her. I had to ask Kimberly to support me today, even though I knew it wouldn’t be easy for her to agree to come as Eric’s companion to make this a double date. She didn’t even bat an eye or ask for an explanation when I made my request. She’s the best friend a girl could ever ask for.

As the receptionist leads us to our reserved table, I can’t help but look around. The inside isn’t what I expected at all, but I’m not disappointed. The walls are covered with subtle geometric shapes in cool colors, while the floor is beautiful polished mahogany wood. In the corners and along the walls are pots with creeper plants reaching up to a diamond trellis just below the ceiling. The lighting is very soft and warm, and half the walls are practically made out of floor-to-ceiling windows that let in more of the early evening light and give a spectacular view of the land below and the ocean in the distance.

Tables with white tablecloths and simple, yet elegant chairs are spread out, making sure that there’s space between each to make sure people can pass easily without bumping into anyone already seated. Each table is only decorated with a small vase filled with a small flower or two, but they are already fully set. There’s a small bar counter and a well-stocked wine rack next to the door to the kitchen, and a spiral staircase leading up to the full bar on the second floor.

The place is definitely meant for fine dining, but it doesn’t have that stiff, stuffy feeling you sometimes get in these types of places. We are among the first customers here today, but those who’ve already been seated are chatting and laughing openly, giving the whole place a more relaxed atmosphere. I can already feel some of the tension seeping out of me.

The table Christopher reserved for us is on the porch outside. The view is even better than through the windows, and the cool breeze brings with it the smell of nature and a faint hint of the ocean. Even though there isn’t a single grapevine in sight—not even as decoration—it feels like what I’ve always imagined it would be like going to a restaurant at a French vineyard.

This place is pretty impressive so far, Christopher says, pulling out my chair for me. I must agree with him. I notice Kimberly glaring at Christopher, but she doesn’t say anything.

The evening starts out well, and Christopher surprises me when he turns out to be a bit of an expert on French cuisine. It comes in very handy, because I don’t know how to pronounce the names of half of these dishes, let alone know what they actually are. Christopher answers all my questions about the menu without sounding condescending or like he’s a teacher giving a lecture.

I’m surprisingly pleased with his behavior. Christopher is clearly trying to be a perfect gentleman and doing his best to earn my approval, but he isn’t trying to be someone he’s not: even now, at a place like this, he’s dressed in a way that passes as formal for him, but still feels a little casual compared to the rest of us. I’m glad. If Christopher tried to impress me by being someone else, he would have lost any chance of earning my trust back forever.

By the time we decide on our starters, things between me and Christopher have started to feel a little more normal, and he even convinces me to try the escargot, which I’ve never been brave enough to do on my own. I believe
