The Final Eighth: Discovering Your Inner Selves to Reach Your Goals
()
About this ebook
In The Final Eighth, an audio course from Scribd Coach, author, social worker, and clinician Bridgit Dengel Gaspard discusses how to reach your goals when the end is in sight and avoid stumbling over that final hurdle of the “final eighth” using the technique of voice dialogue — the communication with the alter egos, or hidden selves, within you.
In the course, Gaspard explains how to understand what makes you you; the eight great selves you can speak with to get a better grip on your goals; how you can get unstuck using the eight great selves; and more. She also shares exercises along the way so you can begin learning what you’ve put into practice immediately.
If you’re looking for a new approach to mental health and goals, look no further. Gaspard’s course is original, practical, and accessible to anyone looking for self-improvement.

Introduction
Welcome to Eight Great Selves, an audio course from Scribd Coach
created as a companion tool for my book, The Final 8th: Enlist Your Inner Selves to Accomplish Your Goals. My name is Bridgit Dengel Gaspard.
Over the course of your life, you’ve probably had many goals. Maybe several of them were outside the realm of possibility. The childhood dream of being an astronaut was squashed when you realized you really didn’t like science or math class. But there were probably many more that were just within your grasp. You came so close to achieving it, but you stumbled at the final hurdle.
I recognized this phenomenon when I was a student seeking my master’s degree in social work at Columbia University, which led me to coin the term the final eighth
to describe what I was noticing. It was an occurrence I observed in others’ lives, but I also experienced it myself.
Here’s the idea: Every day, talented, energetic, motivated people embark on a mission to accomplish whatever goal they’ve set before themselves. Rather than struggling to start, they actually get far in their journey, achieving seven-eighths of the goal they set for themselves. But in that last eighth portion of their journey, they falter. They mysteriously falter right before the finish line, unable to achieve that cherished goal. Why?
We often think of these goals in professional terms: goals that take us to a certain point in our education or career. But there are many goal types out there that this can apply to, whether it be relationships, finances, creativity, or personal growth. Losing our way at the last moment can impact any type of goal to devastating effect. No matter what goal you are chasing, the impact of failure is the same: painful.
I wanted to get at the root of the problem.
