"Don't be a slave to other people.
You lose confidence in youself.
Will Smith
How often do others compare you to yourself? How does this affect you? Many people feel ashamed when they compare themselves with others. This is because they believe they are not good enough or worthy of being compared to others. When you start comparing yourself to other people, you lose sight your own incredibleness. As confidence starts to fade, it becomes difficult to regain control. Remember that you are an individual and unique.
Everyone has a story to tell and it is important not to be able to compare your journey. Give yourself credit for all the achievements. One way to overcome this is to create a list with affirmations that you believe in and then say them aloud every day. You will start to feel better about yourself, and you will worry less about others.
Let's take another look at Peter’s story.
Peter was a shy and timid person of short stature. Peter wanted to be a public speaker and he hoped that this would become his reality. But, his small stature, shyness, and inability to speak publicly made him feel less than he should have. He studied the great speakers who came before him and the people whom he respected, but his self-limiting beliefs about himself kept him from reaching the same level.
Peter felt that speakers he respected had a personality that was outgoing and they were also tall so others could see them. Peter lost confidence in himself due to this thinking. Peter's friends always complimented him for giving great advice, and sounding like a prolific speaker. Peter was happy inside. However, when he considered his mistakes, this feeling would leave him.
Peter got the chance to go to a live event with one his favorite speakers. During the speakers talk, he spoke about the dangers of comparing oneself with others and how it can affect individuals. Peter stood straight up to listen to the speaker. Peter began to think. He learned that people have flaws and should not compare themselves to others. He began to analyze his flaws and came up with ways to overcome his difficulties as a speaker.
Peter took what he heard from the speaker's presentation and started to apply it. Peter noticed a difference in his feelings about himself. He began to use positive affirmations throughout the day, and would switch any negative thoughts to positive. Peter's attitude and personality changed even noticed by his friends. Peter was happier, and his friends could sense the positive vibe he was experiencing in himself.
Peter took a second approach. He started to record videos and posted them on social networks. He started looking for speakers during his free hours and began comparing his own experiences to others in his talks. Peter is now the speaker he wanted to be. He has learned how to use his weaknesses to help others overcome theirs, so that they can live more positively.
It is important to remember, however, that no one is perfect. Everybody has flaws. To overcome these, you must not let them limit your ability to achieve your potential. Peter's story is an example of how Peter made his flaws work for him, so that he could be a powerful
