    Introduction

Law of Impermanence: Nothing is permanent, everything is changing. One moment can change a day, one day can change a life, and one life can change the world.—Buddha

The only thing permanent in this universe is the change itself. Everything else changes. All the misery or happiness is temporary, they all shall change. According to researchers, even our human body replaces itself with a largely new set of cells every 7 to 10 years, and some of our most important parts are overhauled even more rapidly. Change is everywhere but why does it seem hard to accept in our life emotionally? What are the key elements that help the change-making process easy to adapt? Why is even change necessary for one’s success and happiness?

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step is a common saying that originated from a Chinese proverb. Congratulations for taking your first step toward the change by reading this book. Starting to read this book is the first step that you are taking consciously to make impactful changes in your life that will be a lifelong journey. I go through elements of changes and how to lead yourself and positively impact your surroundings for the change you want to see. I call this a mantra for becoming a happy and successful change maker. I will explore from my personal experience, research from books, and proven methods to achieve one goal: Lead to Change the World, which starts within YOU. It’s good to be wise to know different things, but it’s better to get something done. Practical implementation plays a vital role to see the impact.

Do you see problems everywhere? Do you know the solutions to make changes around you? Do you wonder why it is hard to reach goals that you set in your birthday or New Year resolutions? Have you wondered how to be successful and happy in this 21st century? Have you wondered to lead to change within yourself, your business, your organization, or even your country as a political leader? Do you ever wonder how you as an individual contribute to society for change? If any one of these questions resembles your curiosity, then reading this book will give you a full-depth analysis and methodology to answer these questions and many more. I discuss the twenty best habits & valuable areas to improve and start making changes in your personal life, professional career, business, entrepreneurship journey, or to lead the society.

When you hear or see the word Change, you may hear it used in everyday life or news for example Climate Change, I need to make changes in my life schedule, I want to change my diet, change in government rules and laws, a change for better or worse, a change of heart, a change of mind, winds of change, etc. We want to change our lifestyle and living standards and no wonder we see/hear a change in every place because only one thing is permanent in this Universe and that is Change.

In this book, I related my experiences attempting to balance many elements of my life to achieve the level of success that I aspire to. I also explained what it takes to live the fullest life so that if you’re having trouble like I was, you can use my tested way to live a happy and successful life on your terms. This book is intended to provide you with a motivating and inspiring need for knowledge to excel individually, in business, and/or, in society to become a changemaker that starts within you.

Change starts within YOU and from YOU, slowly it may transmit to your family & friends, to society, and the nation overall. One thing to keep in mind is that it is not possible overnight to change anything which has been going on for a long time. It’s a long process rather than simple steps to follow and always depends on individual goals. This book is for all the people who are thriving to make positive changes in themselves and society but are confused about where to start.

All the topics presented are simple yet powerful. It’s not rocket science to start the small habitual changes to make in one’s life. It’s rather an openness and self-realization toward the change that leads to the change-making process. I shared relevant stories throughout the chapters’ personal and publicly known people. At the end of the book, I summarized my brief life journey where I presented my ups and downs and what inspired me to write this book. I am fortunate to have experience working in the Fortune 500 companies and establishing multiple startups in Nepal and USA.

The book is divided into 6 parts: 1st part (Chapters LEAD) is the first step toward the individual change and 2nd part (TO) goes a little further on how it can be done together in a group or family, 3rd part (CHANGE) is the in-depth multiple change factor that needs to be considered for individual and group, 4th part (THE) is the key important topics in one’s life that are related to becoming happy and successful, and 5th part (WORLD) is the valuable areas for developing countries to start making changes and how an individual contribution can be related to change a nation, and 6th part is a brief short story about my life journey.

Parts 1 through 4 (LEAD TO CHANGE THE) are more relevant to an individual, or for the organizational changes that a leader is seeking. Whereas Part 5, WORLD, I presented changes that must be considered in any developing country as additional information for the readers who are willing to contribute to change in their nation’s status and what it takes for a developing country to be on the path of growth and prosperity with quite simple yet powerful changes to consider.

After you read the book, I am hopeful that you will observe yourself and the world from a different perspective, and you will be equipped with proven techniques and tools presented in the book to make you as an individual, business, or organization successful.

17th-century philosopher, Edmund Burke said, To read without reflecting is like eating without digesting. This book is written in simple language to help the reader. The intention here is to share with you the most effective, valuable, and relevant information and tools to start making change and it is only possible only if you read regularly and most important understand the topics presented in the book. Topics may sound easy and familiar, but we do not pay much attention in our daily life. PART 1

    LEAD

    L—Learn ( )

What is the single most important investment decision in your life?

It is Learning—An investment in yourself. Learning from others by listening to others’ experiences is important but listening to yourself is more important. Listening to others in some time makes it more difficult to relate what you want to do. What is it you want? Is a key thing and it is possible only by getting to know yourself.

What are more important Skills vs competence?

Skills are necessary but broad competence is very important in today’s world. Identify and develop your skill and get diverse experiences to get yourself off the ground by setting yourself apart from others.

    Have you unlearned something?

Unlearning entails taking a step back from what we already know to perceive things in a new light. Accepting that our existing knowledge may be insufficient to completely realize our potential is the first step toward unlearning.

Learning is essential to our survival. Learning is the process of acquiring new skills, knowledge, understanding, and values. Information and continuous learning nurture our minds in the same way that food does for our bodies. Our voluntary patience to acquire knowledge and abilities, develop skills, and future open prospects are known as continuous learning. To stay relevant in today’s quickly changing technological environment, we must continue to master new skills. Learning is vital for professional (and personal) development, but the ability to quit learning is what allows us to adapt. Unlearning is essential in today’s world as it opens different perspectives on learning. It’s best to keep your mind open so you don’t learn old habits. One of the most important factors in embracing changes, especially when it comes to implementing new technologies, is not learning prior knowledge and models that can hinder the implementation of new ideas.

Many people are changing jobs because of the Covid-19 epidemic. In August 2021, 4.3 million Americans resigned from their employment, accounting for nearly 3% of the workforce and more than the population of Los Angeles. According to Microsoft research, 46% of employees are considering a job shift. Other top reasons for shifting occupations during the epidemic included work-life balance, pay, work culture, and concerns about professional growth chances. The vast majority of people who changed occupations did so to obtain an industry-recognized degree or learn a new skill. Baby boomers account for 7% of career changes, Gen X 22.5 percent, Millennials 54.9 percent, and Gen Z 15.3 percent¹. Skills development has always been crucial for job advancement, especially for people looking to change careers, but it has acquired new significance in light of the epidemic that is speeding up automation and transforming the nature of employment in many industries.

Most millennials and newer generation youths are no longer pursuing the career for the one they went to school and got their degrees. Academics studies are getting more and more irrelevant in most 21st century jobs. We still need traditional medical Doctors, Dentists, Pilots, Engineers, Nurses, and so on but even in these careers having an extra set of skills is helpful to be relevant in this technologically boomed century. In contrast, we have seen in today’s world most of the billion-dollar companies are founded by college dropouts from Microsoft, Twitter, Facebook, and Apple to Tesla and SpaceX. They are leading the world’s tech industries and redefining our way of living. From the physical world to the internet and now to virtual spaces and crypto. Have you ever thought about why this is? How are they able to innovate and lead the world businesses so much while most of the college toppers are working for them?
