What They Made Me!

About this ebook
The Maoist rebels and the government armed forces were fighting a violent war, which resulted in the killings of a large number of Maoist cadres and army soldiers. Had it been limited to these two parties, the situation would have been acceptable to some extent, but more than seventeen thousand innocent people were killed in the bloody battle which continued for more than three years.
This is the story of an ill-fated woman who was a witness to the gory scene all around her. The aftereffects of the so-called revolution left her nowhere. Society turned its back on her and she was made to leave her husband’s house with her little daughter. To cover her little daughter, she was compelled to uncover her body many times in a day, but destiny had some other plans for her. This is the story of all those unfortunate women in Nepal who are forced to become prostitutes because they are poor and the society they live in does not extend a helping hand.

Chapter 1
What They Made Me!
Place: A busy street near Ratnapark in Kathmandu.
Time: Approximately 5 p.m.
Setting: The area around Ratnapark is full of clamor; vehicles hurrying by; pedestrians walking towards their destinations.
Shoba is standing on the busy street's footpath.
Shoba: What may have happened? No one is looking at me. Do I look old? That boy had been staring at me. Hello, young man! Do you want to go with me?
Customer: Yes! How much?
Shoba: How much time?
Customer: the entire night.
Shoba: Others take 3000 rupees, but I will take 2000 rupees.
Customer: Oh my god! So much of a discount, because you've gotten older?
Shoba: Don’t talk nonsense! If you don’t want to come, don’t!
Customer: What about 500 rupees?
Shoba: You can only have a look.
Customer: Who will give 500 to look at your body? Nowadays, one can watch everything on mobile.
Shoba: For 500, you will only get that much.
Customer: Besides that, I will have to bear the expense of food and room rent.
Shoba: Leave it to someone else to ask. I won’t go.
Customer: Don’t hassle, let's go.
Shoba: For five hundred, I will be with you only up to 8 pm.
Customer: Only three hours?
Shoba: It is 5 pm now. Won’t three hours be enough?
Customer: All right, let's go. (The clamor of the market subdues their voices)...
Scene Changes:
Place: A room in a guest house.
The time is 5:30 p.m.
Customer: Why don’t you take off your clothes? It is already 5:30.
Shoba: Don’t be overly smart like a tiger. You will be like a jackal in two minutes.
Customer: You will come to know that soon enough.
Shobha: (Shoba and the customer are breathing faster than normal) Is it over? Most men are like you. They don’t last even ten minutes.
Customer (panting): My dear, you are like an atom bomb even at this age! You must have been something in your youth. How long have you been doing this?
Shoba: Is it necessary to tell you everything?
Customer: Only if you consider me a friend.
Shoba (laughing): Friends like you come in plenty every day. They show their manhood and disappear forever. Young man, this profession has neither sentiments nor relationships. If I am able to snatch enough money from the customer, I am happy;
