About this ebook

In this style, we will be looking at your spending habits, identifying both your careful and careless attitudes towards money. While money can buy things that make you feel good for a while, true contentment only comes from a right relationship with the Lord.

Week 1 we will consider that you live in a world where people of all ages are obsessed with the lifestyles of the rich and famous, and with obtaining material wealth for social status. People are encouraged to buy things because they want them NOW, whether or not they can afford them. We will discuss how God wants you to be careful on how you spend money. You will learn that money can be a hindrance to your relationship with God, because God’s Word teaches that either God or money is first in your life. We will discuss the fact that contentment grows out of your relationship with the Lord.

Week 2, we will talk about how material things might make you feel better temporarily, but it won’t last. Money can buy a lot of things, but it cannot buy the things you really want and need ... love and contentment. Sheryce, one of the authors, shares how her experience in Ethiopia changed her life. Those children had so little and were infested with medical needs, yet they were the happiest children she had ever encountered. She summarized how it impacted her this way, “Oh my, how I take all I have for granted and never think I have enough. I left Africa with a renewed sense of appreciation for all God has given me.”

Week 3 we will discuss that God owns everything—your clothes, parents, friends, possessions, every living thing, and all of the world’s riches. You will learn that God will give you everything in the world that is good for you—that will help you to be and do all that He created you to be and do. At the same time, as you understand that God owns everything, you also will learn that you do not own anything. You are only a steward (or manager) of what God has given you. Money can buy a lot of things, but true contentment comes only from a right relationship with the Lord—the One who is able to forgive, redeem, heal, comfort, restore, and bless you beyond measure.

Week 4 suggests a date for mother and daughter to celebrate your relationship, share what you have learned and pray for one another. An action point to apply what was learned is identified.

This is the eighth style of nine styles that will help you grow into the woman God desires you to be. Each style looks at a different area of your life, such as beauty, fashion, and friendships. You will learn life skills and values through studying these styles that will build character into your life and equip you to make a difference in your world.

Nancy Butkowski

Nancy and her husband, Dan, have served as missionaries with CRU since 1974. Together they raised 5 daughters who are now married with families of their home (14 grandchildren). She home schooled for 14 years during which time her focus was to help her daughters develop Godly character and ground them foundationally according to Biblical truths. When they got older, the children attended public school. For 14 years, Nancy gave leadership to the Student Venture Club at the schools her daughters attended, helping them and many of their friends grow in their relationship with Christ. As a result of those years of ministering together, she and her daughters developed content for mothers and daughters called Live In Style which they used in putting on live events in many cities. That content is the basis of the books she is developing into a Mother-Daughter series, to assist mothers in having conversations with their daughters concerning many of the issues her daughters and their friends struggled with.Working closely with teenagers, Nancy has come to understand that much of life catches them by surprise, especially as they enter the teen years. She desires to be proactive in introducing pre-teens/teenagers to some of the real issues they are about to face, and help them understand the importance of making godly choices as it relates to shaping their future.
