About this ebook

"Now that her children are adults, Nancy’s passion for healthy mother-daughter relationships, the fertile soil from which godliness can grow, is directed to others. With her daughters she has written a curriculum designed to guide these lifelong family relationships. Her words and those of her girls open the doors of communication between mothers and daughters and helps build healthy open friendships, the desire of every mom" (Barbara Rainey, Ever Thine Home, Founder).

The Mother's Guide (guidance is provided if someone other than mom will be doing the study) is a companion to the Daughter's 4 Week Study and assists you as you take her through the lessons. Within the guide, helpful information is included so you can provide your daughter with a deeper understanding of the content. Together you will look at how God cares about the style she is promoting to the world and how He wants to help her become who she was designed to be. She will be encouraged to follow God's way not Culture's way. The Bible will be used to explain and confirm how God views your daughter.

Week 1, introduces her to seven (7) styles that influence the person she projects to the world. The objective is to help her understand that her personal style should show off her signature style, the person God designed her to be.

Week 2, discusses how people in her world are perceiving who she is by what she wears, how she acts, what she says and with whom she associates. They want to know if her faith is real and if she is living what she believes at home, at school or at play. One of the authors' personal story will be provided to share her own experience.

Week 3, explains that everything she does should reflect Christ, because as a Christian, she represents Him to the world. The importance of your daughter's self worth being found in her relationship with Christ, not on her appearance, intelligence, talents, status, wealth or what others think, will be encouraged.

Week 4 suggests a date for mother and daughter to celebrate their relationship, share what they learned and pray for one another. An action point to apply what was learned is identified.

This is the second study of nine studies that will help your daughter grow into the woman God designed her to be. Each study looks at a different area of her life, such as beauty, fashion, and friendships. She will learn life skills and values through these studies that will build character into her life and equip her to make a difference in her world.

Nancy Butkowski

Nancy and her husband, Dan, have served as missionaries with CRU since 1974. Together they raised 5 daughters who are now married with families of their home (14 grandchildren). She home schooled for 14 years during which time her focus was to help her daughters develop Godly character and ground them foundationally according to Biblical truths. When they got older, the children attended public school. For 14 years, Nancy gave leadership to the Student Venture Club at the schools her daughters attended, helping them and many of their friends grow in their relationship with Christ. As a result of those years of ministering together, she and her daughters developed content for mothers and daughters called Live In Style which they used in putting on live events in many cities. That content is the basis of the books she is developing into a Mother-Daughter series, to assist mothers in having conversations with their daughters concerning many of the issues her daughters and their friends struggled with.Working closely with teenagers, Nancy has come to understand that much of life catches them by surprise, especially as they enter the teen years. She desires to be proactive in introducing pre-teens/teenagers to some of the real issues they are about to face, and help them understand the importance of making godly choices as it relates to shaping their future.

    Forward

Our children grew up together. Two of my daughters were friends with two of Nancy’s so we moved in and out of common circles for many years. Without question Nancy, with her husband Dan, lived for this goal: I have no greater joy than to see my children walk in the truth." That purpose drove her every day.

Now that her children are adults Nancy’s passion for healthy mother-daughter relationships, the fertile soil from which godliness can grow, is directed to others. With her daughters she has written a curriculum designed to guide these lifelong family relationships. Her words and those of her girls open the doors of communication between mothers and daughters and helps build healthy open friendships, the desire of every mom.

I think you would agree that there is no substitute for a mother’s love. And there is no greater joy for a mother than to know her daughter’s heart belongs completely to Jesus Christ…that together their hearts belong to Him!"

    Live In Style Story

We ministered together throughout the girls’ junior high, high school, and college years and experienced firsthand some of the challenges facing young women today. Striving to meet culture’s standard for beauty, intelligence, talents, and abilities chips away at who God uniquely created each one of us to be. Culture is constantly telling women, both younger and older, who they need to be…so much so, that they become busy living what everybody else thinks they should be like, act life, or look like. Soon their sense of ME gets lost as they base their self-worth on how well they match the achievements, the talents, and the looks of others. For the most part, our culture does not encourage us to be who we really are.

Understanding this, we wanted a way to encourage mothers and daughters to stop and consider who is having more influence in their lives…God or culture.
