parenting the danish way .
Describe yourself.
I am a Danish psychotherapist, teacher and author. I’m also a wife and mother to two daughters, Ida (21) and Julie (18). For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to supporting the development of others. I’m especially interested in contributing more love to the world, and our childhood contains the most significant obstacles to living from a place of love. In our childhood, there were places and times where we did not feel seen and loved, and as adults, we project those experiences into the world. If we can create more awareness around parenting, we can also raise children who have a greater love for themselves and those around them.
Tell me about your book, The Danish Way of Parenting.
The book aims to provide information about some of the parenting principles that have worked well for people in Denmark for decades. It focuses on six key areas: play, authenticity, reframing to help children cope with setbacks, empathy, parenting without ultimatums, and togetherness (which we call ‘hygge’).
