#1 Our bodies have a tendency to send us wild, overactive hunger signals, often when we’re not actually in danger of starving to death. This can lead us to make poor food choices and overeat. -> Our bodies often send us wild, overactive hunger signals when we’re not in danger of starving to death.

#2 Our bodies were never designed to function in this dramatic fashion. We lost the knowledge of when to stop eating, and we are now constantly overfed.

#3 Our brains were never designed to process all of this information, and they aren’t well equipped to make rational decisions when it comes to food. Thus, we are constantly bombarded with dopamine-rewarding food messages that make us believe that eating and calories are good things.

Our bodies can be so dramatic. They can cause us to make decisions that don’t benefit us when it comes to what we eat and how much we eat. For example, if people stranded on lifeboats at sea are able to get by on nothing but rainwater and seaweed for days on end, then surely we aren’t about to die of starvation.

    #2

When you’re immersed in a culture that overvalues thinness and blames you when your body doesn’t look like the on-trend ideal, you become more distanced from your body and what it needs.

The prefrontal cortex is the part of the brain that makes us human. It allows us to think rationally and consider what we’re thinking about. It can make plans and weigh the pros and cons of a situation. When we consistently consume foods that contain lots of flour and sugar, our brains become accustomed to the large dopamine releases, and we no longer feel as much pleasure from eating. We have to first cool things down in our brains by getting our heightened desire for food under control.

    #6

The snack food industry is one of the main reasons we have such a desire for food. It was a money grab by food executives, and it has paid off. We are now conditioned to eat little meals in between standard meals.

    #7

The snack food industry has exploded since the 1970s. We are bombarded with snacks all day every day, and it’s not your fault for being sucked into the snack craze. marketers have studied in great depth how to describe and display their products to cause a physical response in shoppers and commercial watchers.

    #8

The snack food industry is also extremely skilled at making their
