    Keep An Open Mind

I have always tried to be very non-combative about the way I teach. I can’t come into your country, your city, your bar and TELL you what’s going to work with YOUR customers. You are professional, working service givers, and experts on your area and we respect that. But what I can do, is tell you about all sorts of things that are working in other bars around the world. It’s totally up to you whether you want to try any of them or not.

We, all the people who contributed to this series, really want you to succeed. This entire series is about giving you ideas on how to be a better All Around service giver. We’re here to help you make more money, for yourself and for your bar.

There are things that suggest that you’ll think to yourself..... Yeah....that’s not going to work for me ☺. No problem. We don’t expect you to agree with everything we say or write.

Just remember. Everything we’ve written has come from hard won experience.

Basically, we’ve screwed up so many times, we’ve figured out some better ways to do things. Not perfect, that’s too much to expect, but with excellence ☺ So, keep an open mind, be willing to experiment a bit and you may find that you have more fun and make more money.

1: Include Your Guests In The Fun

Encourage Them To Play with You :)

For Everything You Do In Life, There’s A Way Of Doing It In A Way That’s Fun. Your guests are your Audience – Get them involved in your fun!!

    ––––––––

MAKE YOUR BAR THE PLACE TO BE

(Because something interesting is always happening).

Be smart and take a few moments to SHARE THE SPOTLIGHT. That’s Time Well Spent! Just be sure that they’re the right moments. When you single someone out for some special attention, you can really make his or her night!

Too many servers, and owners and managers as well, seem to forget that the customers we serve and profit from are real people just like you and me. A smile, a handshake, hold this, catch this or a come-again-soon can go a long way. Everybody likes to feel important.

    ––––––––

If we can consistently make at least some kind of effort to connect with every customer we serve, we’re going to make customers for life. And they will tell their friends about you and bring them the next time.

Unless he or She Begins With Some Wild Expectations". – Ralph Charell

    ––––––––

We call these things Style of Service Flair.

There’s no risk, just a big upside of fun factor. :) I look for as many ways as possible to get my guests involved in the games and fun I create.

Often, these things only take a few moments... 5 to 10 seconds. Some take a little longer so it’s a constant challenge to assess the crowd and decide which of your hundreds of things you are able to do to actually use in that situation.

    ––––––––

This is Time Well Spent not Time Wasted.

    ––––––––

A skeptic may say, Well Scott, when you’re really busy, 10 seconds for every customer will really add up and slow you down. Won’t that piss off your guests that have to wait? That’s a good question. I have a few answers... No, not if you use those 10 seconds well. When I play with or interact with my guests using any of the below games etc...

Do you think that the person I’m playing with is the only person who sees it? No, everyone around the bar gets to watch the fun and so even if they have to wait a little bit longer, they are being entertained while they’re waiting so in my experience, most people don’t mind at all. They love it.
