WHAT IS GLOBALIZATION?
Between concept and fetish
The ways in which the phenomenon of globalization is interpreted are very varied. In everyday consciousness it is often associated with the Internet, Coca Cola, Mercosur, the triumph of "democracies" over "communism." Globalization is thus something more than a scientific concept.
Today globalization is a fetish. That is, the word is frequently used without being understood in detail. Describe something like a hidden power that shakes the world, and at the same time brings the world together.

WHAT IS GLOBALIZATION ?
Between concept and fetish
The ways in which the phenomenon of globalization is interpreted are very varied. In everyday consciousness it is often associated with the Internet, Coca Cola, Mercosur, the triumph of democracies
over communism.
Globalization is thus something more than a scientific concept.
TODAY GLOBALIZATION IS A FETISH. THAT IS, THE WORD IS FREQUENTLY USED WITHOUT BEING UNDERSTOOD IN DETAIL. DESCRIBE SOMETHING LIKE A HIDDEN POWER THAT SHAKES THE WORLD, AND AT THE SAME TIME BRINGS THE WORLD TOGETHER
However, the belief in the formation of a peaceful and humane world society
is denied by all practical experiences: wars between nations such as civil wars proliferate, and social divisions are deepening. The conjuncture of the concept is probably related to some important events: the collapse of the USSR, the end of competition between systems, and the expansion of capitalist relations of production. This also corresponds to the existence of a single world military power: the US As never before, The world appears, then, finished and unified.
In the concept of globalization
a real contradiction always resounds: the broad and decisive triumph of capitalism could simultaneously undermine its natural and social foundations. With the term globalization
, therefore, a double meaning is always associated. The concept symbolizes the hope of progress, peace, the possibility of a united world and, at the same time, represents dependency, lack of autonomy and threat.
Amid the confusion, the task of scientific analysis is to explain more clearly what is to be understood by globalization
as a sociopolitical phenomenon, locate its origins and determine its long-term consequences. A true explanation of the concepts is only possible in the framework of a broad theory of society and its development Hirsch refers to the kind of historical materialist analysis of capitalism found in the Marxist tradition.
What is understood by globalization and what are its dimensions?
When speaking of globalization
several levels of analysis can be differentiated:
1) TECHNICAL: it is related to the implementation of new technologies linked to the possibilities of processing and transferring information. This makes it possible to unite very distant regions of the world.
2) POLITICALLY speaking of globalization, relating it to the end of the cold war
and the division of the world into two enemy blocs. After the fall of the USSR, the victory of the democratic-liberal model is presented as definitive. The United States has become a dominant military power
