    Grace

I did it. I signed up! Maria exclaimed the second she stepped out of the elevator and approached the desk.

Grace Hill frowned and looked up at her friend, she was excited about something but for the life of her she couldn’t figure out what it was. The tone indicated she should know, but her mind was drawing a blank.

What are you talking about? she finally asked.

You forgot? sighed Maria and leaned against the front desk, I told you about this new dance place, it has only been open a couple of months but it’s all about ballroom dancing, waltz, salsa, tango.

Oh, yes, I remember you did mention that. I’m not sure it’s for me, I couldn’t do any of those dances, Grace pointed out. But I’m sure you’ll be perfect for them.

Course you can do them. Why couldn’t you?

Grace raised an eyebrow at her, a look of disbelief on her face. Was she serious?

Her eyes looked over her friend and a twinge of jealousy ripped through her. Maria was stunning, as in every man in the office followed her around like a lost puppy. All she had to do was drop something and someone would be there to help pick it up. Her long blonde hair came to her waist; her bright blue eyes and slim frame got her all the attention.

Unlike Grace. Men always looked right past her, never at her. Whenever she was interested in a man, even as a teenager, they never saw her. They never wanted her. When they found out she had a crush on them, they seemed repulsed. Not one of her crushes ever returned her affection.

She always wondered why. Was she ugly? Was it a signal she sent out? Did she seem desperate? Or maybe she just wasn’t girlfriend material? Could it be she just wasn’t the kind of woman, any man would want?

Grace sighed, catching her reflection in the window. Her favourite feature was her hair. The raven black colour was always soft and thick. The rest of her appearance she pretty much detested. Her skin was ridiculously white. It didn’t matter how much time she spent in the sun, she never caught a tan. Not properly, anyway. She would have a little redness for a couple of days but that soon faded. She was once nicknamed Snow White by a friend at school. Her green eyes were pale, bland and held nothing special.

However, it was her weight she struggled with the most.

Over the years, she tried everything to lose weight. Wishing to be slim, but nothing worked. Exercise, diets, detoxes she even starved herself at one point. But the wide hips and that touch of extra padding she held just wouldn’t shift. There was no way she would ever look like the models in the magazines. Maybe that was her problem?

Look at me, I may be called Grace but that does not mean I am graceful, I can barely walk in a straight line without falling over, not to mention I don’t have the figure you do. There’s a little too much junk in my trunk.

You did not just say that! Maria burst out laughing.

Unable to resist she joined the laughter, shaking her head in the process. Great friend you are laughing at me... she teased.

Oh, I’m not laughing at you, sweetie. In fact, I’m angry at you. You need to stop putting yourself down. You’re beautiful as you are, I wish I had your figure.

Gracie scoffed and shook her head. No. You don’t.

"I do! You’re stunning and you need to start
