()
About this ebook
Maren doesn't have anyone to spend Christmas with this year, yet she is counting her blessings. Raised in foster care, she has succeeded at so many of the goals she had for her life; a great job, a good place to live, and a possible love match in the form of her downstairs neighbor. If only Noah weren't the saddest, most introverted around Christmas, he might himself see the potential of a match. In a desperate attempt to get some Christmas Magic applied to her wish, she visits a tree known for granting Christmas wishes and adds hers to the branches. Soon, she is being given plenty of pushes in the right direction for Noah's attention. This might end up being her dream Christmas until the sweet new friend who is helping her on her Christmas mission has her true identity revealed. For a realist who doesn't believe in magic, Maren is about to have her eyes opened to all the possibilities of this most magical holiday!

Chapter 1
Maren glanced up at the huge tree and back at the little sign. She had seen several news stories in the previous few days talking about this tree. People came out, placed a wish on an ornament, and put it up on the tree. She was too pragmatic to believe in things like the magic of Christmas, but this morning had broken her. She had a special wish and was not sure where else to turn for help. Maybe the inspiration for doing something so crazy could make it happen.
Glancing about, she didn’t see anyone in the darkened park. She probably should be worried about her safety, but she came prepared after two years in the city. That first winter, she had taken self-defense classes that she stayed abreast of even now. She carried pepper spray and honestly tried to stay in the safest areas possible. Simultaneously, this was a bit off her normal path; all the amazing lights and open spaces with snow capping everything wrapped around her in a blanket of comfort.
She quickly made her wish, put it in the tiny tube on the tree. Holding it tight for a long moment, she closed her eyes. It was a truly fanciful wish; she understood that. After growing up in foster care and clawing her way through community college to finally gain enough experience to get a good-paying job—fanciful she was not ever! She had a solid head on her shoulder, was a planner, and took things as they came. This was the most out-there thing she had done in a long time.
Finally, taking the ornament, she found a branch that was not as laden with other offerings. Putting it up on the limb, she stepped back. She didn’t expect anything to come of the wish, but somewhere deep inside, a tiny whisper of something echoed. It might be amazing if it did come true, even in small parts.
Hi,
a voice said, causing her to spin violently on the ice, nearly topping over. A cute girl that looked to be in her late teens sat on a bench less than five feet from her.
Hi, sorry you scared me half to death.
Sorry,
the girl said, raising her hands in the air. I’m not a rapist, serial killer, or crazy.
Maren chuckled, well, that’s good to know. Though I doubt someone that truly was, those things would come right out and tell me that.
True. I see you made a wish,
