    Synopsis

    Noelle

Noelle cursed as she stared at the computer screen, needing to write, and to  hit her word count for the day, but unable to string a sentence together. The words just wouldn’t come, and it was frustrating.

She was wearing her usual comfortable clothing, leggings and a long jumper dress, her dark hair in a messy bun on the top of her head and little to no make-up on, glasses on the edge of her nose, framing her green eyes.

Writing had always been her go to for her creative mindset, even as a youngster. Only she never imagined at the age of thirty-two she would be an author. She was happy with her successes over the years, grateful to have the chance to pursue such a career. It had been a hard long slog to get to where she was, but she wouldn’t change the way she did it for anything.

After being rejected from many publishing houses, she decided to go it alone, publish herself. She already had an editor and a cover designer, all she needed was to bring all those things together on a regular basis to get her books out there.

She was good with deadlines, pressure. It motivated her more to keep going. Usually. There was always going to be sometimes where she struggled, like at that moment for instance... Her editor, Georgina, was breathing down her neck as her deadline approached to get the manuscript done and dusted. But writer's block had taken up permanent residence in her brain and just wouldn’t shift.

Cup in hand, her coffee now cold, she stared at the blank screen. The few words on the page blurred together. She read them over and over but she didn’t really process them. The brain fog was real.

With a sigh, Noelle closed her eyes and tried to force her mind into submission. She needed to push past the block one way or another.

Her phone rang, jolting her from her turmoil over word count and deadlines. One glance at the screen and she couldn’t help the groan as her editor’s, name flashed at her.

    Hi, Georgina.

    Noelle, how are you?

Noelle smirked, knowing that her editor was really asking how her latest book was coming.

I’ve stalled. I’m having huge writer’s block. I just can’t get the words to come.

You only have a few weeks. We need this book done and to me before Christmas to hit the New Year sales.

I’m aware of the deadline, she said slightly annoyed.

    What are you stuck on?

    Funnily enough, the sex scenes.

Are you kidding? You’re an erotic romance writer. How can you be stuck on them?

I just am, Noelle insisted and huffed a little.

When did you last get any?

    Excuse me?

Sex. How long has it been?

Noelle froze, shocked at the bluntness of the question but not entirely surprised. Her editor was a straight talker, and she had a way of getting to a point without beating around the bush. Not always a good thing, but definitely a honest thing.

As she contemplated the question, she realised it had been quite some time, almost six months since she was last intimate with anyone. She blushed, embarrassed at the realisation but refused to answer the question.

But the silence was a good enough answer for Georgina.

I’ll take that as too long, she said.

    I never said anything.

You didn’t have to, said Georgina amusement in her voice. You have some homework from me. Get laid.

    What?!

You heard me, go out and get laid. Go to the gym, find some hot, buff weightlifter, or a sexy businessman at a bar or even a cute tech-savvy guy. Or even a woman! Have an orgasm or two, that should get rid of your writer's block.

That’s not exactly how I find sex. I much prefer a proper connection, even if it’s not a relationship as such. I don’t do one night stands.

    "Oooh, but
