    The Immune System: Your Personal Bodyguard

    The human body is an interesting specimen. It is so complex that even modern science can’t explain many of its functions. However, one of the mechanisms that have been explored in detail is the immune system. It is basically the system in the body that protects it from pathogenic organisms (such as viruses, bacteria and parasites) and foreign substances (such as toxins and allergens). Its means of protection is an immune response, one of which is inflammation.

    Without an immune system, it would only be a matter of hours before pathogens and foreign substances ate away at your cells. This is what happens when you die, actually. As soon as the immune system shuts down, the body becomes torn down and broken up until all you are left with is your skeleton. It sounds a bit morbid, but this is just to show you how important it is to keep the immune system strong.
