Summary Of "What Is Comparative Politics?" By Franco Castiglioni: UNIVERSITY SUMMARIES
()
About this ebook
COMPARED POLITICS is the COMPARISON OF POLITICAL SYSTEMS, to explain their differences and similarities, patterns, regularities and processes; trends and changes, which serve to develop general propositions or hypotheses that describe and explain those trends. A secret is to KNOW, WITHOUT PREJUDICE, one's own political system and those of others so as not to fall into wrong ideas about how politics works in other parts (which is what North Americans or Europeans do with Latin Americans, or what they do with Africans ). Comparing allows us to understand what "politics" is in different places, since in politics there are no universal meanings, since this meaning is given by the actors of each political system. PLURALITY must be PRIVILEGED. We have summarized the essentials of "Comparative politics", by Franco Castiglioni.

COMPARATIVE POLITICS
IntroducTION
Sartori said that comparison is a method of controlling our generalizations.
Comparing serves to improve descriptions, formulate new concepts and hypotheses, test them, and build theories. The basic questions are: why, what, and how to compare? For example, current democracies like Argentina, are they consolidated or are they fragile? To answer that you have to compare. One of the objectives of current Political Science is to detect obstacles or favorable elements for the consolidation of democracy.
Comparative politics
COMPARED POLITICS is the COMPARISON OF POLITICAL SYSTEMS, to explain their differences and similarities, patterns, regularities and processes; trends and changes, which serve to develop general propositions or hypotheses that describe and explain those trends. A secret is to KNOW, WITHOUT PREJUDICE, one's own political system and those of others so as not to fall into wrong ideas about how politics works in other parts (which is what North Americans or Europeans do with Latin Americans, or what they do with Africans ). Comparing allows us to understand what politics
is in different places, since in politics there are no universal meanings, since this meaning is given by the actors of each political system. PLURALITY must be PRIVILEGED.
Comparative Politics And Political Science
THREE STREAMS of Political Science
• EMPIRISTS are the majority group among political scientists; They are not interested in theory, but in the description-interpretation of individual phenomena, in a given place and time; for example, the changes in the Argentine PJ or the role of the military in Peru. These objects of study are important for themselves and for their relevance.
• THEORETICAL: they seek the accumulation of knowledge of Political Science, but they do not apply their theories to the empirical world. They are the opposite of empiricists
• COMPARISONISTS: it is the smallest group, and it combines theory with practice. By comparing, they seek to identify a set of causal conditions and their relationships, making it possible to explain the causes of certain historical-political phenomena and putting those explanations to the test. Urbani will say that POLITICAL SCIENCE APPEALS TO COMPARISON TO ACHIEVE CAUSAL EXPLANATIONS AND TO FORMULATE NEW HYPOTHESES AND GENERALIZATIONS
The comparative method
The comparative method is the most used of the methods used by Political Science to prove its claims and to investigate. We have four METHODS:
• The EXPERIMENTAL METHOD is rarely used, since it is necessary to have isolable and observable cases at different times,
• The STATISTICAL METHOD requires having many quantifiable cases, which is not easy,
• The HISTORICAL
