TRAVELING HOME
This young lady, the one who had the right to be called Peacemaker, and the king, queen, and prince left the palace they lived in with her serving them.
Three months later, she said, Stop the carriage, please.
They did, and she got out and walked a little distance off, and they saw her talking to a small child about the age of seven. They thought that she was asking the child if she knew of her friend or to tell her about someone who might know.
She came back and said, We have all been invited to dinner. I have already accepted, and it would be rude much not to go.
She had deliberately put in the rude
part so none would refuse. They all knew that their king had a low tolerance for rudeness.
So they went to dinner.
The lady of the house said, I apologize for not having anything prepared, but my daughter had not asked me if she could have guests over,
not realizing that any of them were royals.
Sara asked, Do you need help in the kitchen?
The woman replied, I do not ask guests to work.
The child came in and said, I am glad you all could come to dinner.
To that, her mother said, And you get to help make it.
The child nodded, and they went into the kitchen.
Five minutes later, the child’s father came home and entered through the kitchen. His wife said, We have guests.
He asked, Who?
His wife shrugged. Our daughter invited them without my knowledge.
He went in to greet his guests and apologize for not being there when they arrived. On seeing Sara, he stopped. He remembered her but was sure he had not met her.
Sara glanced at him and said, Ask your daughter if she trusts me.
He nodded and went back into the kitchen. He asked his daughter, Do you know these people? The one lady asked me to ask you if you trusted her.
She replied, I have not met any of them before. When she asked if she and her companions might join us for dinner, I told her, ‘Of course.’ I am not even sure why, but I entirely trust her. Somehow I feel as if I should know her, yet I don’t remember her.
At that, her mother scolded her, saying, I thought that you knew better than to invite strangers over.
Sara excused herself from the group and came in the kitchen. She asked, Madam, is there a problem?
No problem,
she answered. My daughter just told me she doesn’t know any of you.
She has not met any of us before. However, she knows me,
Sara said.
What is the difference?
the child’s mother asked.
Sara replied, Tell me, child, do you know me?
The girl answered, I feel as if I should, yet somehow I can’t place where.
Sara replied, How about my ancestor’s name? She was called Sam.
That awakened a memory in the child and her father of an event that happened before their lifetimes, the event being the last time one held the title of Peacemaker and they were all sent away from the land. They both stiffened.
The child said, Honored one, how can I serve?
The woman asked, Who was Sam?
The child and her father answered, She was one whom many people respected. In the land that was her home, there was peace, and most people were happy.
Sara said, She was among the queens of the land. Those I travel with do not know that I am a queen, though the woman and her husband and son are royals too. She is different from me in that she became a queen when she married a king, whereas I am queen even though I am not married. I became queen when my parents died. That was such a long time ago.
The woman said, You’re a queen? And the other woman too?
Sara replied, "Yes. Your daughter serves me, though she is a ruler too. She is a king because she is the youngest of the royal family that is a part of her history, and her people have no word for queen. Right, Diadon?"
Yes, King,
the child responded.
Her mother asked, "A royal? And what does Diadon mean?"
Sara replied, Yes, she is a royal, and Diadon is a title that belonged to her ancestors and now is hers. Child, do not tell anyone of it till after I reach my home.
Then Sara went out and sat with those she was traveling with. Ten minutes later, the family came out of the kitchen, carrying simple food.
Sara said, Thank you for your kindness.
They managed to keep up the appearance that they did not know anyone was a royal. After dinner, the woman said, You all are welcome to spend the night. It is dark, and I am sure that you have a ways to go.
They thanked her. The next day, they left, and the child hugged Sara, who smiled and whispered to her, When I call, you and your parents come.
They left. When they were in the carriage, the king asked, Where now?
Sara said, East.
Four months later, they stopped in a town at the edge of his kingdom. Sara got out and walked off. Two hours later, she was back, holding a small child, and the child’s parents were following her. They stopped when they saw the carriage because not many people had them, especially so far out.
Sara did not stop but said, Come! Your child needs help, and I do not have the resources here that are needed.
They came. She got into the carriage, and they followed.
Sara said, Sir, to the ocean, please, and hurry.
Why?
he asked.
Sir, please, of respect to me,
Sara
