The Shells are Talking to Me

Pebbles and Izzy were sitting on the beach playing around.

Mamma said, Pebbles and Izzy, come here and see.

Mamma put a seashell up to Pebbles’ ear. Listen, the sea will talk to you.

Mamma asked, Is the sea talking to you? Pebbles nodded her head and said, Yeah, Izzy come here and listen.

Pebbles put the seashell up you Izzy’s ear.

Mamma asked, Is the sea talking to you too, like it was talking to me?

Izzy replied, Yes, the sea is talking to me too.

Pebbles walked to the water and picked up another shell. Pebbles asked Mamma, Will this shell talk to me too?

Yes, Mamma replied, just listen closely.

Mamma asked, Is that shell talking to you Pebbles?

Pebbles replied, He is yelling at me.

What is he yelling? Mamma asked.

He is telling me to put him down, Pebbles replied as she pulled the shell away from her ear.

Mamma said, Come here and let me see.

Mamma took a look in the shell and saw Mr Crab standing with his hands on his hips.

He began yelling at Mamma, Put me down! I was almost home. Now look, I have to start all over again. It is going to take me all day.

Pebbles asked, Where is your home?

I live in the sea, silly duffer. It has taken me all morning to get to where I was; did you not see? Now I am never going to make it home for tea.

Pebbles began to laugh, and Mr Crab asked, Are you laughing at me?

Yeah, Mr Crab. You should be called Mr Cranky Pants, she responded and giggled.

    Indeed! Mamma agreed.

Well! You would be cranky too, if you were going to miss tea.

Pebbles said, Here Mamma, Izzy and I will take Mr Cranky Pants back to the sea.

Here, come with me, and we will make sure you are home in time for tea.

Pebbles and Izzy walked to the edge of the sea, and a wave rolled in and out again, taking Mr Cranky Pants back to the sea. Pebbles waved goodbye to Mr Crab as he went home for tea.

Pebbles and Izzy ran back to Mamma and said, "Now that was funny; come find another shell with us.

So Pebbles and Izzy spend the rest of the day listening to the sea.

In time they met some not so cranky crabs, who were quite happy to meet Pebbles and Izzy. "Pebbles would take each shell she found down to the waves and watch while the sea came and took them home for tea.

    The next day there
