750451_FNL_01.tifI t was the summertime. Codi was nine years old, and for the first time, she was allowed to play on her own.
Codi lived on an island, so her backyard was the water. She slowly ventured down toward the dock, where her dad anchored his fishing boat, which he named Angel-Blue. He left every day before the sun came up and didn’t get home until after the sun had gone for the day.
Codi hoped he would have a good day and get a big catch. Her dad had not had a good year. He hadn’t been able to fill his nets, and money had become tight. He was not happy, and she often heard her parents fighting.
