Seventeen – year - old Kane’s life is complicated. He is beginning his final year of high school and his best friend Jimbo nearly died through an overdose. All he really wants to do is to visit his cuttlefish colony, a short distance by boat from his holiday shack at Lucky Bay, South Australia. Into his life, from Sydney, strides the confident, beautiful and disarmingly sexy Alexandra (Lexie). He teaches Lexie to snorkel and the cuttlefish fascinate her. Kane is smitten, aware of Lexie’s body and the emotional and physical reaction it creates within him. However, he is confused by her attitude, which is changeable like the cuttlefish he visits. Kane’s artist father David and his three mermaid sculptures, also fascinate Lexie. She is flirty, sexy, and frustratingly confusing to Kane.
