WHAT LIES BENEATH

Swimming further up the river, life seemed to come to a standstill.

I had entered a dead zone, with no fish, creatures or plants in sight.

But pushing on upstream, I was soon rewarded with a beautiful chalk river.

Having swam for miles already in the late-April heat, I was quickly growing tired.

So, I turned around and started heading home.

It was then that I suddenly noticed a pillowcase, snagged on a fallen branch.

Why would someone throw a pillowcase away? I thought confused.
