About this ebook

This book is a compilation of short stories about my life and certain experiences I've had. They cover issues such as race, faith, addiction, the mistreatment of women, and overall degradation of moral values. It addresses certain immoral principles and poses questions to make people think and hold themselves accountable for their actions and the image they portray to the world. They're meant to question some of the norms of our society, as well as give people some insight into who I am and how I developed the opinions that I did. My hope is that they will be a positive example for children and all people, not only of the present, but also the future. The ultimate goal is to set a better standard for the youth so that they won't be negatively impacted by the corruption that I feel has permeated its way through the system.

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

First and foremost, I have to thank the Lord our God. For if He had not created me, I wouldn’t be able to spread this message to any of you. Not only is He our Creator, He is my inspiration and motivation for writing this book. Dear Father, I thank You for the love, guidance, and all the blessings You’ve bestowed upon me. My amazing family, wonderful friends, everyone who helped me become the person I am today. I thank You for every beautiful morning I have the privilege of seeing, because I know tomorrow isn’t promised. I thank You for the enemies, obstacles, and adversity I’ve encountered throughout my life because they helped me to build character, strength, and courage. You are the reason we are all here today, and I’m grateful for the life You have given me. Thank You Father.

To my loving mother, Bernadette. Words can’t truly express what you mean to me. Some men are afraid to admit they’re a momma’s boy, but I’m not one of them. From the time I was born, you gave all of yourself to making sure I had a proper upbringing. Your continuous unconditional love, even at times when I felt undeserving of it, helped me persevere through so many tough times. You instilled good values within me, taught me right from wrong, and never gave up hope when I almost gave up on myself. Your dedication to your children is one of your greatest qualities and it’s something I will try to pass on to my children. For all the times I’ve hurt and disappointed you, I apologize. But, I thank you for never giving up and I’m forever in your debt. Thank you, Mummy. I love you.

To my father, Arnold. Thanks for all the support you’ve given me the last few years. I know we never really had the type of father-son relationship you would’ve liked. In my younger days I always felt you were too hard on me and that’s why I rebelled against you in my early teens. I know it hurt you when I was the only family member that wanted you to leave to start your accounting business. Part of me feels sorry for saying that, but I was only being honest. At the time, our relationship was very strained and I felt some time away from you may have benefitted us. I think my greatest disappointment in life is never feeling I could live up to what you expected of me. Nowadays, our relationship has vastly improved and I’m thankful for that. We may not be able to rewind time and fix all our issues from the past, but I’m optimistic that we can build on what we have now going into the future. I love you.

Now to one of my best friends, Lavonne. I’m so proud of the woman you’ve matured into. Who would’ve known from the days of us fist fighting and even biting each other that we’d become so close. To see you achieving your goals and turning your dreams into reality fills me with so much pride. Your diligence, perseverance, self-confidence, independence, and fearlessness are strong traits that I respect about you. The process of seeing you work to become a lawyer is something I’ve always found impressive. I feel honoured to have you as my sister and I know you’ll continue to do well in life. Keep your head on your shoulders and your feet planted firmly on the ground, and may God continue to bestow His blessings upon you. I’m grateful for having you in my life and I love you very much.

Last, but certainly not least, I’d like to thank everyone else that helped me develop into the person I am today and reach this point in my life. I pray that this can be something that motivates others to push themselves outside of their own comfort zones, to strive to achieve something they felt was unachievable. Or even something that can put a smile on someone’s face after a rough day. My name may
