Shanette Pullum
She was grown up in a rural part of Jamaica. She was educated at Saint Elizabeth Technical High School, Bethlehem Moravian Teachers College and the International University Of The Caribbean. She earned a Bachelor Degree In Education. Being a teacher the love for educating children has taken up one - third of her heart. Now she has extended her love through writing in order to contribute to the lives of individuals. She knows one of the major roles in society is having a positive influence on others. Growing up with her brother and mom her family was not considered huge but they were able to share with their cousins who were their next door neighbors. They played in their grandma’s colossal yard until the sun left them with tears. Through socialization it gave her the privilege to realize that life is made up of different steps but only each individual can know which step to take in order to foster that dream.

MY BEST DAYS
THE FLUFFY GRASS
A MOTHER’S JOY
I laid there almost lifeless.
The heart-rending cry,
Let my body awake
From its frozen state.
I watched gentle hands,
Provide me with all the care and protection.
My aching heart relaxes
For all those who made this long and difficult road a reality.
I smiled with gratitude.
She filled the room with laughter,
As her echoing voice started to dissipate.
I knew now she must be taking a nap.
From her tiring place of safety,
I watched her eyes closed.
So innocent, yet so peaceful.
THE HOMELESS
Years went by and I was still in the same spot.
Not by choice, but I had nowhere else to go.
I watched vehicles go by each second of the day.
The tooting of the horns, and the screeching of the brakes
Sometimes were too much for my unsteady head.
I watched people passing by.
Some glanced at me,
While others walked quickly when I was too close.
There were kind ones who recognized who I was
Because of my attire.
Sometimes they would stretch their hands
And show they care.
I would say I appreciate this.
It is not so simple here,
Where people will try to deny you
Of a place to lay your head,
When sleep sets in.
I feel so depressed at times,
Not having a bite to satisfy my hunger.
Families were scarce.
No one wanted to be your friend,
Not in this state of mind.
My friends were the birds,
The bees and all the crawling insects.
They were willing to listen to every cry.
Even when the wind beats
Against my tattered clothes,
And my body shivered to its rhythm,
I was still in love with nature.
It was all I got, and I appreciated it.
DAD
My mother told me about you.
I had never seen you
Even when I wanted to tie my lace
And when my nose was running without end.
I watched my friends playing with their dad.
They seem so happy then.
Thrill ran through my body.
I know it must be a good feeling
To have a dad who cares.
My mother usually say, don’t worry.
I knew she was thinking really hard
To watch her son go through
This unnecessary ache.
I will always have you in my heart,
No matter what.
You will always be that father
That wasn’t there.
I am not going to cry.
I am going to use what you have done
In a positive way,
Showing the world that
The absence of a father
Doesn’t mean you have
To think negative at all times.
NEVER JUDGE
Never grow impatient with me,
If I never smile at that moment.
I may be going through hell,
And feeling hopeless then.
Never grow angry,
If I did not remember
To say thank you.
Wait! You may just hear the reason.
If I did not remember
To close the door,
Don’t behave as if
You have seen a ghost.
I might have a valid excuse.
If my hair looks dirty,
Just don’t stay there
And cut my throat.
You may want to ask the reason why.
If I talk too much, correct me.
Don’t go out there and add to what
I did not say.
It is not hard to be beautiful people.
THINKING OF YOU
Mom, I love you more than words can say,
Even when I am a thousand miles away.
If I don’t show you that much,
It’s because my love for you is so strong.
It makes me confuse at times.
I don’t know the reason why.
Beautiful mom, you brought me in this world.
You make me feel so good.
Always wrapping your tender love
All around me, making sure I never cry.
Mom, sometimes I forget to even thank you
For all those sacrifices you made,
And I wonder why.
Don’t ever think for a
