About this ebook
Chastity Hernandez makes her poetry debut with a personal and intimate collection of poems spanning years throughout her youth. Spring of Aging explores a myriad of raw emotions and thoughts experienced by the author in a relatable and curious way. Spring of Aging brings you along on a heartfelt journey of self-acceptance, heartbreak, grief, mental illness, and new love.
Spring of Aging began at the author’s age of 14 and has been completed at the age of 22. The collection embraces and comes to terms with different situations in life and hopes to comfort and resonate with readers who are experiencing similar emotions and hardships. We hope at least one of these poems reaches you in a meaningful way and leaves you feeling understood, represented, and at ease. Each poem was put together in a vulnerable and brutally honest state that the author hopes readers can come back to again and again.

Wednesday Afternoon
Wednesday
Afternoon
The air was cool
And I looked like a fool
You brushed the hair away from my face
And said to me,
Don’t run or I’ll chase
You always tried to keep me close
I regret the path that I chose
I was oblivious
And it broke us apart
For that I am sorry
And I will never forget
As long as you don’t continue to pretend
As if you never knew me
Or as if you never held me
Please don’t pretend
it hurts to think about it
And it hurts to write about it
Please go back
To Wednesday
Afternoon
Warm Sweaters
You are soft and warm
Hugging you is like embracing starlight
Being with you is like holding sunshine
Talking with you is like eating clouds
Hearing your voice is like listening to the soundtrack of life
Touching you is like feeling crisp autumn weather at the perfect temperature
Inhaling your scent is like breathing in every beautifully fragranced flower to exist, all at once
Kissing you is like having honey drizzled on my tongue
Feeling your skin is like touching the silkiest of satin sheets
Ruffling your hair is like throwing rose petals down an aisle at a wedding
Holding on to your arm is like grasping onto a life preserver
Looking at you is like seeing the Seven Wonders of the World in one place
9 PM in the Rain
It was late at night
When I saw you walking
Outside in the rain
With her arm linked in yours
It was 9:13 PM
If I remember correctly,
And I am positive that I do
When I noticed you bend down
And start to tie her shoe
She was holding the umbrella
The one I gave to you
Her hair was cut short
And your outfit, brand new
She is who I wish I could be
She is someone that you must hide from me
She is who you’re dreaming about
When you are at home, kissing me
She is the person who makes you smile
When you see things that remind you of her
She is who you are going to see
When you must work late
On New Year’s Eve
Pretty All the Time
You are pretty all the time
You are flawless when you drink wine
You are gorgeous in my mind
You are ethereal because you are mine
You are the cleverest in the land
You look the happiest when you are holding my hand
You shine brighter than a silver band
And although my heart is aching,
Still you stand
You are majestic with the wind
You remain my greatest sin
You are the curtains I have pinned
You are the secrets down within
You are intuitive with the earth
You see things I have only heard
You are God’s most precious birth
You are more than I am worth
Hello, Honey
Hello, Honey
Did you miss me?
I am standing here and I’m so happy
Your hair is all bed-headed and nappy
I want to run my fingers through it
Hello, Honey
It’s nice to see you again
I’ll order you a cup of coffee
And we’ll talk about the past
Time is going by far too fast
Hello, Honey
Do I look as you remember me?
I’ve matured and so have you
Your favorite color used to be blue,
But now you’re telling
