    Introduction

Resilience: A Choice for Everyday Living

For all of us there are occasions when life can sometimes be a real struggle. Day to day living can present numerous challenges requiring the maintenance of high levels of energy and performance.  In addition, everyday life can demand inner steel and the courage to keep going through difficult times, as all of us will have periods when we are faced with the challenges that are part of the human condition such as disappointment, change, grief, illness etc.

Everyday resilience is about maintaining a sense of wellbeing and staying mentally strong, while effectively meeting the different demands presented to us and performing to our very best.

It may be that you spend the day biting your tongue whilst dealing with difficult customers or you work, or spend time with people who are unappreciative. It could be that you’re having to carry on when riven with grief or in circumstances where you are putting on a brave face in order to reassure those around you.

Whatever the circumstances this handbook has been written to support individuals before reaching the point of personal distress, to help drive the negatives out of the way and provide support in maintaining purpose, motivation, values and focus.  Resilience for Everyday provides a pathway from identification through to understanding and self-awareness and finally to recognising future action and beginning the start of a new journey.

The aim of Resilience. Resilience: A Choice for Everyday Living is to:

Increase your knowledge and so create self-awareness

Eliminate the effects of ‘being present in body but not in mind and spirit’

    Mitigate stress symptoms

Prevent the psychological and financial costs of reduced personal resilience for individuals, those around us, businesses, organisations and communities

Reinforce or build up your everyday power and resilience

Strengthen your confidence, enjoyment and participation in life.
