    Celebrity chef and TV personality, Anthony Bourdain, bookends his memoirs with a crystal-clear theme, he has been a food adventurer and a seeker of amazing experiences since he was nine years old, and he is going to stay that way.

    Bourdain was a normal American kid, hooked on burgers and fries, until his dad took the family to his native France for the summer. Nine-year-old Anthony was skittish at first, but soon began sampling every French delicacy, even raw oysters, and a true foodie emerged during that trip.

    Bourdain attended Vassar College in the 1970s, spending more time doing drugs, drinking and making trouble than attending class, but began to find himself when he took a job washing dishes at a seafood shack in Provincetown, Massachusetts. He loved its wacky kitchen atmosphere and the way the four cooks swaggered like pirates.  

    Bourdain realized he needed to learn a lot about cooking and enrolled in the Culinary Institute of America, where he was a star. Unlike the other students, he actually had restaurant experience to draw on. He graduated in two years and began working a long series of jobs, ranging from elegant establishments to neighborhood dives. Each kitchen he worked in came equipped with its own set of quirks and bizarre characters, such as
