    Blue Zones are geographical regions where a statistically high number of centenarians (people aged 100 or above) reside, and in which members of the community experience an exceptionally low incidence of disease. Thanks to their lifestyle choices, these individuals lead long, healthy, and fulfilling lives, the kind that most of us can only hope to enjoy ourselves. Fortunately, Dan Buettner is here to uncover the health-giving lifestyle secrets of Blue Zone residents, which if followed could add years to your own lifespan.

    Buettner has studied four of the Blue Zones in depth: Okinawa in Japan; Sardinia in Italy; a small pocket of California called Loma Linda; and the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. He visited each area to interview centenarians and their families, working with experts to assess the physical and mental health of these individuals. He then established patterns of longevity within the four zones.
