Introduction
This manuscript aims to introduce the art of powerful habits to you, the reader. It shows you how you can shift your mindset and build on your success. There is a psychology behind a successful mindset that will make it easy for you to break bad habits and create new habits of happiness and success.
The main focus of breaking old habits is very effective in overcoming addictive behavior and even addiction itself. By changing your mindset to powerful habits, you can eliminate depression, anxiety, and build more confidence and charisma. You will become more self-disciplined and successful with just a few changes to your daily program.
Chapter 1: The Simple Art of Powerful Habits
Goals can be a wonderful thing to strive towards in your aim towards success. The awful truth about goals is that, no matter how good your intentions of achieving those goals, most are never achieved as desired or even within the time limit that was set. This leaves people with a lot of self-doubt and feelings of failure. To be realistic about setting and achieving goals in due time and with great success will, over time, decrease your stress and increase your self-esteem.
Now, we are not saying don't set goals. We are just moving your habit from setting a normal goal to rather set a powerful habit to achieve the success you want. To set a powerful habit of becoming better at something every day instead of focusing on the end product or goal, will result in things becoming easier. You will get the results you want without any of the negative effects that goal setting can have.
Here is how to implement a few powerful habits to your daily routine to increase your chances of success.
Focus on the System, Not the Results
If you take a good look at the goals set in your life, it is not about what you want to achieve but more about the change this will bring to your life. To change our ways, and to get to the changes in life that we are actually after, you don’t need to set goal after goal. Changing your focus from the result of the thing you want to achieve to focus on the system of how to get to that point just makes more sense. This will change your way of thinking and turn your focus away from goals to the habit-creating system which, if practiced regularly, will have the same or better results.
Let’s explain. Let’s say you want to win a gold medal at the next Olympics (goal). You need to focus and plan an everyday exercise routine (habit) to better your physical condition and yourself every day (system) to win the gold medal (goal). So now you are going to run 5km every day to train for the gold medal to reach your goal. We say no, if you turn your focus away from the goal, the golden medal, you are going to create a powerful habit to improve your skills, time and training every day to better itself. The golden medal will be there at the end of your journey, yes, but you need to focus on today. Did you win that medal with your time and habit of exercise today? This is how you create a system for habits—by improving on your habit each day as if you are to reach your goal every day.
So if you practice winning each day, this will become your system for a habit. The system will be your safety net on good and bad days to keep up with the habit. To create a powerful habit, you need to practice it frequently and duration is not the important factor. If you are trying to create a new habit, shorten the duration of the practice to a smaller amount of time spent and try again later in the same day. As you find it easier to keep up with the habit you are creating, you can always add time to it later to increase the duration.
For instance, if you are a beginner at meditation, you will find it almost impossible to sit for 20 minutes of meditation each day during your first week of trying. Rather, break it up into smaller steps. Say you know you have five minutes before you have to leave for work in the morning, or you have about five minutes in your lunch hour available. Then, make a plan to add another five minutes just before going to bed. Soon your habit of meditation will be set in a workable system, and it will be easy to follow the five-minute session you have set. You will soon have more time and be more confident to add more time to the sessions to better your system. The thing is, it is your system of a powerful habit; you can change it to fit in with your lifestyle.
Once-Off Transformation Lies
It is so easy to fall for once-off offers that will or rather promise they will change your life and help you to reach your goals. When you research your plan and the thing you want to achieve, you will find a lot of these cheap imitations
on your results bar. Do not fall for them as they are only right-now solutions and, by creating powerful habits, you will achieve forever results.
Say, for instance, your goal is to lose 10kg before summer starts again. So you give yourself three months. Now you research some diet plans for healthy eating and exercises that you can do to achieve your goal. But your eyes find the once-off product that promises to have you losing those kilos within four weeks and you don't even have to do anything. Most people will fall for this as it is in our nature to find the easy way out and some people are just too lazy to create a powerful habit of healthy living. Unfortunately, it is proven that none of these products really work and the one that does is either unhealthy or is also part of a change of lifestyle plan. Before you spend the money on a quick fix, work on a system to achieve powerful habits and
