A diverse blend of music floated through the rooms of Nick Foxx’s house as he grew up. His family listened to and played blues, jazz, folk, gospel, country, rock’n’roll and classical music and they all fascinated him. Late in the night, he’d sit with his father and grandfather while they told stories and sang their favorites.Professors and artists mingled with ranchers and farmers around picnic tables in Nick's backyard to enjoy fried fish, barbecue, and good music as the neighborhood children chased fireflies in the twilight. The music he heard filled his head with dreams of being a professional musician. He played at local dances, clubs, and bars before he could drive. By twenty-one, he had performed for crowds of thousands, heard himself on the radio, and sang on live TV. His music has been used in advertising, film, television, theater, and played in concert halls. Records he worked on decorate the walls of his office and home.Nick began publishing ebooks in 2008 with Anonymous Publishing. While writing under the pen name, Nicky Faulkes, Nick’s work “The Time Of My Life” won the Earth Day Story Contest on Literotica.com and gained him the praise of peers. It encouraged him to keep writing and telling stories.Nick is a semi-retired composer and musician, happily married for over twenty years to a beautiful, loving woman who is the love of his life. Nick’s stories are a blend of his personal experiences and fantasies that merge to bring genuine, relatable characters and engaging tales to the page. His greatest delight is to share the joy he feels creating new work with the people who listen to his music or read his stories. Please contact Nick at: nick@nickfoxx.net to get the latest on his next project or to join his facebook group. Chapter 1

To make a grand, romantic gesture, you need a grand idea and a well-thought out plan to prevent your gesture from turning into a total catastrophe. I had a grand idea and a plan. It was time to set that that plan in motion. It was my first Valentine’s Day to have a girlfriend or more than one. Well, I had a girlfriend and we had other girls that…never mind. If you’ve been reading my story, you understand.

I made dinner reservations, scheduled time with Janice and Veronica for the next day, and called a florist to take care of the rest. I had a grand idea and the plan was unique and well-thought out, but the execution wasn’t flawless. It wasn’t a total catastrophe but it hit a road bump or two and if you stopped and looked far off into the distance, you could see its catastrophic potential was readily visible. It wasn’t entirely my fault though if you ask C J, she would say that it was at mostly my fault because I’m a dumbass for doing it. A sweet, thoughtful, considerate dumbass – but a dumbass nonetheless.

The florist taught me that each kind of flower and each color of flower has a distinct meaning and significance. He said if I was sending flowers to someone I love on Valentine’s Day, roses were the best choice. To prepare, I researched what each color of rose meant. Before that, I didn’t know that a rose’s color meant anything. Different colors were chosen specifically for each person I sent them to. It reminded me of the Greek words for love. In ancient Greek, there are eight words for love. They were specific about what kind of love you meant, romantic, affection for a friend, brotherly love, love of family, playful love (like a crush), an obsession, enduring love of commitment, or loving yourself.

To Mom, Charly, and Mrs. Flowers I sent small bouquets of peach roses because they’re given to express appreciation. Mom gave me a kiss on the cheek and I got a nice thank you text from Charly. She can be nice. But when she is, it freaks me out a little.

It only seemed right to warn Dad (and Mr. Flowers) what I was doing so they could make appropriate plans and send bouquets too. Dad gave Mom one red rose, a box of candy, and tickets for a moonlight cruise. Mr. Flowers followed Dad’s lead and booked a weekend getaway for the two of them. I wanted to send Rachel flowers but asked Sam if it was okay first.

She said, Rachel told me since I proposed on New Year’s Eve, she’s in charge of how we celebrate Valentine’s Day. I’m only allowed to do one thing.

Really? What are you going to do? I asked. From the look in her eye, I didn’t want to hear the answer.

To show my appreciation for all they’d done and to demonstrate my friendship, I sent peach and yellow roses to Sam and Rachel. Sam got a six of each in her bouquet and Rachel got a dozen peach and
