About this ebook

The world of Galataea is a strange and unusual place filled with many strange creatures and even stranger people. Scott continues to make headway with the Crystallim in his care, while a looming threat appears. The not so-surprising return of a certain individual leads to many revelations and perhaps, an increase in team morale.

Galataea Crystallim is a series included in the Project Scott Multiverse. Graphic depictions of sexual situations and violence do occur, though the story itself is essentially a far future adventure series that indulges in the occasional epic cuddle session there is very little in the way of fade-to-black style writing conventions involved in this series in regards to adult situations, violent or otherwise. At its heart, however, it is more of a goofy comedy set in the far future.

I am a former soldier, but current lover of pop-culture. I like anime, manga, comics, animation in general, and zombies. I always have to mention the zombies! Anyway, I spent four years in the US army as an Advance Field Artillery Tactical Data System Specialist. This is a fancy way of saying, "Guy who coordinates the battlefield and makes coffee." I am irreverent in nature. I tend to laugh at the strangest things, and usually those things are inappropriate to laugh at. This sort of fascination with the inane leads me to write comedy stories, and off-the-wall adventures.

    CHAPTER 1

Dirt, dust, and tumbleweeds are common sights in any desert plain. The scrub grass gives way to cracked, dry, earth. Soon dirt and dust is the only thing that can be seen for miles on end. Yet, even in such a barren wasteland there is life.

Scott looked down at the tracks that his group had been following for the last few hours. Tracking a flying creature on foot would normally be difficult, perhaps even impossible once it was completely out of sight. Thankfully, Hawkline tended to walk when they were not in a hurry. All that he had needed to do was to find one set of tracks that lead away from civilization. When that set of tracks disappeared, he told the girls to fan out and search for another set.

That method of tracking could have ended badly, in a number of ways. But it was the only method available. Flying vehicles were rare in the area, most likely due to the inordinate amount of flight capable Crystallim.

If Scott were not currently on an assignment he would take the time to properly bond and train his recently acquired Hawkline. Her senses would make this task much easier. That was not the case, however. He could not entrust his life, and his team, to someone completely new while on a mission. Worse, he would need to rotate one of the other girls into storage due to his current limitations.

Shaia recently became a little more assertive and confident in herself. However, she had no legs. If he was forced to rotate someone out, it would be her. Such a decision could drastically reduce her sense of purpose and confidence in her recent accomplishments. A hunter's life was not all about battle. His most important duty was to continuation of the health and welfare of his team. Ruining Shaia's self-esteem solely because he could use a better tracker did not sit right with him.

Still, he'd spoken with his new Hawkline friend briefly about the situation while Pirouette, rather Pirouette in Analise form, acted as a witness. There might be an inquiry in regards to keeping the girl active after he put her into storage due to his current limitations. Pirouette's word would corroborate his story. It was the best defense against indictment that he would have if the city council decided to charge him with breaking hunter limitation protocol.

The Hawkline was not certain where the nest was due to the psychological effects caused by recently awakening from her Nightmare status. It might be quite some time before she could recall that information clearly. However, she did mention that she thought that the nest was inside of a large canyon.

Scott took that information to heart, but the most recent satellite surveillance of the area showed no canyons for a fairly hefty distance. He was certain that he would not see the nest for quite some time.

Pirouette used the binoculars to check things in the distance, her superior vision made the best use of the device and she could see clearly at a considerably farther distance than any of the other girls.

    Still nothing? asked Scott.

I am not certain... There is a small dust cloud several miles ahead, but it’s still too far away to tell if it is what we are looking for, said Pirouette. I certainly do not see a canyon, though.

Scott nodded to her. "We’ll keep moving. There should be a nest around here somewhere. It might not be the nest, but given the number of Hawkline, there might be several secondary nests as well. Most of the tracks lead in this direction if they aren’t heading to town."

What if there is more than one? asked Flora.

I don’t know. Like I said, it’s possible, but I would think that there would be a lot more Hawkline around than there are if there were more than two or three nests, said Scott. "We can handle that if we're smart. If it's worse than that, we'll have to
