Kim Marshall was now in her mid forties and thoroughly bored with her career in advertising. She'd been working for the same firm for seven years and found herself becoming increasingly out of touch and indifferent to what they felt was so important to success and what they were looking for from their employees.

Everyone she worked with seemed unctuous and irritating. She was reaching the point where redundancy seemed like a relatively pleasant concept and every day seemed to bring a new annoyance. Every night was spent scouring the internet looking for a better job, or a way out from her frustrating and unsatisfying existence.

Relationships had been a similar dead end, and the thought of settling down with a man her age seemed increasingly unlikely.
