About the Author
INTRODUCTION
Virtually all persons have the desire to achieve success in whatever they are doing. However, most people end up as failures in spite of their strong desire to succeed. The desire to achieve success and the practical realization of that objective are separated by many barriers, such as procrastination, laziness, fear and a host of other self-limiting beliefs, emotions and habits. This explains why so many people with very laudable ideas and goals die without fulfilling their dreams.
Many people possess great talents, yet they fail to tap into those talents in order to realize their potential. So, in spite of being richly talented, they spend their life running errands for other people. Similarly, many people have obtained college education, yet they fail to take the practical steps to achieve career success out there after school. These unpleasant situations are attributable to lack of self-discipline, which is obviously the root of mediocrity, frustration, unfulfilled dreams, business failure and other problems.
Self-discipline as a Catalyst to Success shows you how to bridge the gap between the desire to achieve success and the actual realization of your desired goals. The book gives you clear insights into the laws and principles of success and shows you how self-discipline can help you maximize the benefits derivable from obeying them.
This book will show you how you can reinvent your life by moving out of your comfort zone into a realm of result-oriented actions. It will show you practically how you can cultivate self-discipline and how doing so can take you from a life of mere wishes to a life of fulfillment. It will inspire, motivate, inform and transform you, as it empowers you to turn your ideas and theories into tangible products.
OBJECTIVES
We shall examine this important topic from three major perspectives. The critical questions to be raised and the clear practical answers they will elicit are designed to give you great insights into the ABC’s of self-discipline and success.
WHAT: What is Self-discipline? What is a Catalyst? What is Success?
WHY: Why is self-discipline necessary?
HOW: How does self-discipline facilitate success? How does self-discipline maximize the laws of success?
WHAT?
WHAT IS SELF-DISCIPLINE?
Self-discipline is a way of training yourself so that you learn to control your behavior and obey rules. It is the ability to control your behavior and make yourself do the right thing at the right time.
WHAT IS A CATALYST?
A CATALYST IS SOMETHING THAT CAUSES AN IMPORTANT CHANGE OR EVENT TO HAPPEN. In Chemistry, it is defined as A SUBSTANCE THAT CAUSES A CHEMICAL REACTION TO HAPPEN MORE QUICKLY.
WHAT IS SUCCESS?
Success, to some people, is when you achieve what you want or intend. When a lot of people like something, buy something, or go to see something, such a thing is often described as a great success. Another way of looking at success is when someone achieves a high position in their job, on a course, in a sport, in society, etc. Success is also viewed from the angle of when a business makes a lot of money. All these are common notions of success.
Let’s try to give an overview of what success means. Let’s come up with a simple yet all-encompassing definition: one that gives a clearer picture of what success really entails.
SUCCESS IS THE REALIZATION OF A WORTHY OBJECTIVE.
An objective is something you are trying hard to achieve. Yes, the picture painted here is that success is progress made towards achieving a definite purpose. It implies that success comes as a result of having a clear purpose and working hard towards achieving it.
SUCCESS IS THE GOAL YOU ACHIEVE BY WORKING HARD, BUT FAILURE IS WHAT
