The Strength of a Woman

About this ebook
The Strength of a Woman by Razia Sulliman is a non-fiction book describing how women can be the best they can be. An introduction, eight chapters, and a conclusion comprise this relatively short book. The book is concise and delivers a lot of clear guidance to help women navigate their lives. Each chapter begins with a quote, and the author follows it by reflecting upon its meaning.
The first chapter discusses how women perceive themselves. The author encourages women to spend time on introspection and not think that they should aspire to be what society has labelled them. The author expresses that women must find balance in logic, decisiveness, strength, intuition, and emotion.
Further chapters discuss a woman’s journey through life. Although all women have dreams and aspirations, they should not be afraid to veer off their intended direction and experience the beauty and fun of life. Women don’t have to stick to society’s rules, and even if a plan fails, it does not make a woman a failure. Disappointment and loss are also parts of life that are unavoidable. In the long run, if dealt with correctly, these parts of life can enhance strength and the possibility of future success.
The quotes at the beginning of each chapter were well chosen and impactful. “A woman is like a tea bag - you never know how strong she is” is my favourite. I loved this sentiment, and it speaks volumes about the strength, resilience, and determination of women. After each quote, the author reflects on them and draws her interpretations from them. There are also opportunities for the reader to become interactive with the book. There are sections to make notes and observations, and perform some thought-provoking exercises suggested by the author. This addition made the book feel like a form of therapy and guidance.
The author uses some personal experiences and experiences of a lady she knows in the book. These parts were an excellent tool to show the themes in each chapter. For example, some extracts show how a woman’s life took some wrong turns but ended up where she needed to be despite these events. These are great teaching points to show that life has good and bad times, but we can still heal, recover, and continue on our journey.
