The World We Live In 5 - Jamell Crouthers
Foreword
A book series may end but the issues of the world don’t….
Christina
Dear Christina,
Your Dad and I want you to know that we love you,
With every ounce of blood we have in our bodies.
Thank you for writing that heartfelt letter to us,
I was moved by it and have been in tears reading it.
Your dad felt that I should write this letter back to you,
And he told me what to write on his behalf.
For starters, a night like that unfortunately happens too often,
You were brave and courageous in what you did by reporting it.
The news outlets are there to draw in ratings for people to watch,
Your Dad and I know who you are as a daughter and as a woman.
A news reporter or writer questioning your promiscuity doesn’t matter,
It’s because we know who you are, what you’re becoming and how smart you are.
Has this whole situation taken a toll on us both? Yes it has, not going to lie,
But to see the justice served and knowing that you’re going to heal from this makes me smile.
Yes, I have dealt with this before but I didn’t have the platform that you do,
You have an array of options to go with going forward in telling your story.
You can write a book, do TV interviews, radio interviews, public speaking,
Whatever route you choose to go down, the sky's the limit and we’re here for you.
I would love to be a part of your journey in talking about the rape culture in this world,
You can definitely be the forefront and I’ll be the one standing behind you watching your back.
I’m going to always be behind you, in case you ever fall,
I’ll be the one to catch you and keep you on balance and get you back on point.
Yes, your dad is angry and furious at all that has happened these past few months,
But he knows that things are going to get better as time goes on.
We have considered leaving town and moving somewhere else to start over,
But time will tell as we have to weigh our options and see where the wind blows.
Don’t ever feel guilty in anyway about reporting this and pursuing this case,
We want you to know that we are glad that you did, the stress, tension and tiredness is worth it.
This is only going to make women feel stronger and more willing to report wrongdoings,
Even if it didn’t happen to them but it happened to someone they know or are close to.
I know that you’re dealing with the PTSD episodes and you’re not that affectionate,
That’s the hardest part for your father to deal with when it comes to this situation.
He definitely misses your warm hugs and just leaning on his shoulder most nights,
He’s understanding of it all as I went through the same phase with him decades ago.
We will be here for you every step of the way through this healing process,
And yes we are both willing to go to therapy with you to get you better.
We know that you’ll never be the same woman again, we just hope you grow,
And become stronger than you’ve ever been and learn about yourself throughout it all.
Society has definitely spread a bad perception of rape and sexual abuse,
The things said are definitely wrong and it takes a smart person to understand that.
While you are your own woman and will go through a lot of battles in your mind,
Just know that I’ve been there, I understand and I’m always all ears to listen.
I’m definitely willing to talk to you about my story and what happened,
It’s something I never felt the need to tell you but I think now is the time to tell you.
When you hurt, we do too and we’re going to get through this together,
We’re a family and no matter what happens outside of this home, we’ll be good.
What we have is a bond that can’t be broken, always remember that,
As your parents, we definitely raised you right and to always do the right thing.
Even in times of stress, angst and horror, you were able to scream for help,
You were able to get people who can help you bring those responsible for their actions to justice.
One day, we’ll get to talk about what I dealt with and went through,
I’ll get to tell you how I was able to heal but never forget what’s happened to me.
The negativity will follow you wherever you go because of social media,
Along with news outlets covering a college campus rape case that went national.
This goes on everyday on college campuses and I had friends who dealt with it,
Your dad knew women who dealt with it too, it’s just now we can do more to bring awareness.
Don’t give up on yourself, you are going to go through depressive periods,
The medication you’re on is going to fuck with you mentally, just let me know when it does.
Remember I went into this profession because of the experiences I’ve dealt with,
I wanted to make sure that no woman ever experienced what I went through in my life.
You’re the best daughter anyone could ever ask for in this lifetime,
Dad and I love you and that’ll never change.
Love Always,
Mom and Dad
Tears are falling down my face uncontrollably as I can’t control my emotions,
Reading this letter from my parents was so heartfelt and I’m speechless.
My parents know how to calm a crazy, emotional, reckless soul,
I know I’m going to be alright with all that was said by my parents.
I’m looking forward to hearing my mother’s story about her life,
I’m going to need whatever help I can get with healing from this.
I’ve already started getting contacted about my story and what happened,
I don’t know what I’m going to do regarding that but time will tell.
The one thing I want to tell all women who deal with rape and sexual abuse,
Don’t be afraid to speak up and tell your story, this must stop.
We have
