    About the Author

    Preface

    I have been a prolific writer for over 30 years now. It all began with God speaking to my heart one day when I was just 19 years old. From that day until this, I have written down every single word I have ever heard inside. Throughout my lifetime, there have come many answers, directions and guidance from listening to that inner witness. There have also been a number of books produced from this; something which God promised to me more than 25 years ago. That if I would be faithful to write, one day I would be a published writer. God’s promise has been fulfilled already; and His Word has never returned unto me void. There have been many, many lean years; but His Promises have remained: unwavering, unconditional and everlasting.

    I wish to honor God in all that I do; in everything which I write for Him. I long to comfort the hurting souls who do not feel free to share their inner pain with others. I long for the words I pen to make a difference to lives unseen; to people I may never know or even know about. I want my purpose as a writer to be fulfilled. I want to be a blessing not only to those in need; but also to the God whom I serve with all of my heart.

    It is my intent that those who read will find help for their own hurting hearts; insights into how to grow closer to God in the process; and comfort from the pain which inevitably comes from living in this world. It is my sincere desire that those of you who read are encouraged, comforted and given direction which you seek from the hand of God, through the words which I have penned over an entire lifetime. May God’s richest blessings rest upon you; and may you feel His Spirit near to you always.

    Acknowledgements

    There are many people in my earthy lifetime who have changed my life in some small way; some changing my heart in larger ways. But there are three servants of God, whom I believe, were sent to this earth in order to be His witnesses. To share that He is Lord; He is the Healer; He talks to His children; He longs to love us unconditionally and share His supernatural riches: by way of visions and visitations. These three people have left permanent inroads in my heart and spirit; having taught me more by example than those in my very midst on a daily basis. They stand up tall before all men, never denying their beliefs or experiences. They dwell with God in their hearts; and the Spirit lives within them and shines from without in all ways, in each and every day.

    Kathryn Kuhlman, although known as controversial, was the one who introduced me to a real, living, active relationship with the Holy Spirit Himself. She taught from the pulpit, and I saw by her living example, that what I desired most in this life was to know the Holy Spirit in the way that she did: in truth; in reality; her companion; her confidante; her confidence. A decade later, along came Dottie Rambo. Her example was also one of supernatural experience and relationship with the Holy Spirit. She shared so much of her visions from God and visitations from angels. I am truly in awe of her, as a Christian being of God’s light, because this is who she truly is. She was given at birth a God-given ability to write songs conveyed to her from the Spirit of God. They number in the thousands today. They are sung in all denominations, literally all over the world. She has left such a remarkable legacy to those wandering in this world; teaching by her songs and also by her beautiful example that one can follow Christ regardless of what happens in their lives. She has followed Christ through each and every fall; every struggle; every sorrow; all her sufferings: physical, emotional, mental. And yes, the world around her watched to see her fail. Yet, through more than 25 years, I can honestly say that she has overcome the trials that have beset her; and come out more victorious and radiant than ever before. She is a glowing witness to Christ. She bears about herself the actual Light of God.

    Then, one came, who stands tall in God’s will. He is my age; and he was called to service at about the same time when I was. However, I said no, I cannot do. Benny Hinn said yes, Lord; whatever You want; wherever You wish me to go; I am there. He has been a constant, radiant example of what happens when you totally give your own life over to the Holy Spirit of God. He is known more as a healer of God’s children; but he is also a prolific writer; an astounding speaker; and preacher of God’s Word. Again, his example of the living relationship with the Holy Spirit has taught me much more than I could have ever learned from anything else. To stand in his services is to stand literally in the very presence of God and all the angels. There are just no words to describe what it feels like to have Heaven descend upon you, in earthen vessel, while you are still residing upon this earth. It is no wonder that people come in with serious illnesses and leave, totally healed by the power of God resting upon them. This is done because Benny Hinn moves over and allows the Holy Spirit to use him as an instrument of healing. It has nothing to do with Benny himself. However, to look upon Benny’s face is to see the Love of God shining forth from him; an instrument of healing to the needy.

    These three people enlightened my understanding of the realm of the supernatural. At each decade of my life, they taught me by example the living realities of the Holy Spirit. They shared boldly of healings; of visions by God and visitations by angels. They talked with God and He spoke back to them. My deepest longing in this world was to know the Holy Spirit as these know Him: in complete openness, honesty, reliance and trust. I feel I am who I have become because of these precious saints and servants of God. They opened windows and doors to pave the way for millions of hungry souls to learn the truth about God’s ways; the sacrifice of Jesus; and the continuing, abiding presence of the Holy Spirit within all believers. Because these three servants were strong in the faith of God, giving thanks always to Him, they taught me by example how to desire a firm relationship with the Holy Spirit. He has been my teacher; my confidante; my confidence; my assurance; my wellspring for more than 30 years. These people walked publicly through the land mines of criticism, ridicule and derision for the sake of all those who desperately needed what they had to offer: a risen Lord; a loving God; a gentle Holy Spirit. To teach; to guide; to direct; to deliver; to heal; to hold our hands every single step of our journey. Because these three imparted spiritual truths, I learned to practice the presence of the Holy Spirit in my daily life. Because the Holy Spirit descended to remain upon earth, after Jesus ascended to His Father in Heaven, I have been redeemed; taught; healed and delivered from each and every trial and torment which tried to beset me. And most importantly of all, because Christ lives, I know without any doubt, question or reservation, that I too will live also: permanently; freely; everlastingly; Eternally.

    Walking in the Spirit

    MEET ‘ALEXANDER’

    Alexander knew the way, but hardened his heart against God and blasphemed the power of the Lord. He said there was no resurrection ahead, but had already passed. As a result, because he was a Jew, he turned many Gentiles away from the faith. He had a ministry of great signs and wonders; but was given over to satan as a result of willful disobedience. ‘Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof’ was his sad, but woeful end. Let us learn a lesson that we shall not soon forget. (I Timothy 1: 18-20; II Timothy 4:14; Acts 19: 32-34; Acts 14: 2-4; Hebrews 2:4; Mark 16:20; Acts 5:12; I Cor. 2: 4, 5; II Peter 1:16; Romans 2: 46).

    CHARACTER OF GOD VS SATAN

    Character of God is soft, gentle, still small voice. He speaks to us in the central depth of our spirit. He leads gently, never forces or drives. Brings deep calm and quiet assurance. Speaks in line with the Word of God. Speaks the Word. Brings into liberty. Unites in love. Character of satan is a harsh voice; metallic ringing in the outer ear. Drives soul to hasty actions. Satan hurries and pushes us. He produces restlessness, agitation, uncertainty. Portions of the Word of God are omitted in his ‘quoting’ of them. Isolated words out of context from their true meaning and intent. Brings soul into bondage to minute trifles. Drives to separation in envy, jealousy, strife, contention and dispute.

    A VIEW OF JERUSALEM

    ‘Oh Jerusalem, thou that stonest the prophets. How many times have I longed to take you unto Myself and cover you with My wings, as a hen covers her chicks, and ye would not!’ Jesus said this as He viewed the city which had refused Him. As He viewed the city, He felt a range of emotions. He felt LONELINESS, because He was with God in a place apart from the crowds. He felt SORROW, because the city would not believe Him. He felt REJECTION, because the city had refused to understand His purpose was for their behalf. He felt LOVE. This was the love of God that burned within Him, to help those who had spurned Him. A love that broke His heart for the heaviness of the burden of that city. He felt SILENCE. This was a stillness that possessed His soul. He knew that God was His only refuge in a world that would not understand. There was a relinquishment in Him to the perfect plan and will of God. He felt COMPASSION, an intense feeling which swept over Him. He felt a strong need to protect and comfort the city; to cover the city with His wings and wrap them about in His love. He felt SERIOUSNESS, because of the reality of what He was about to do for the benefit of the city; and the realization of what lay ahead for Him and for them through it!!

    WALKING IN THE SPIRIT

    (Hebrews 5: 13, 14) ‘For everyone that useth milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age (spiritual maturity), even those who by reason of use (habit) have their (natural and spiritual) senses exercised (trained) to discern both good and evil’. The price of the Crucified Life is walking in the Spirit. The Crucified Life is not a one-time deal, but it is a process of steps in the Spirit. This is commonly known as ‘walking’. We are given a choice of walking in the way of the Spirit, or sitting on the sidelines with the world.

    Walking in the Spirit comes by:

    1.   Prayer. It is by praying that we learn the ways of God (who He is).

    2.   Bible Reading. It is by the reading of the Bible that we learn the acts of God (what He does).

    3.   Communion with God. (a) recognizing and repenting of the sins of man’s spirit; asking God for forgiveness of those sins; forgiving God in those areas where you feel He’s wronged or unjustly violated you. (b) recognizing and resisting the tactics of satan’s spirit; (c) recognizing and realizing the character of God’s Spirit, not just His acts (what He does), but knowing His ways (who He is).

    4.   Exercising (training) our (spiritual and natural) senses to discern good from evil. (a) In the spiritual realm, this is known as ‘seeking God with a whole heart’. We seek to hear His voice by listening with our spiritual ears. We seek to see His hand by looking with our spiritual eyes. We seek to be sensitive to His direct and indirect guidance by perceiving with our hearts the truths He is trying to convey to us. (b) Sometimes when we do not get a seemingly direct answer from God about a given situation, we get together with one or two other people who walk in the Spirit. We then reason out the situation together. In the natural realm, this is known as ‘brainstorming’ with man.

    Brainstorming is a sudden burst of inspiration, moving the intellect and emotions. We toss thoughts back and forth. As God begins to give insights, we write them down as they are quickened to us. We honestly face our motives, our priorities, our spiritual values regarding the particular situation. We make a list of why we should or shouldn’t follow a particular course of action. We check our attitudes, our peace, our perspectives. We check our potential benefits to ourselves and others. We check our results. We check to see if we have peace or turmoil. We check for confusion, being alert to satan’s devices and tricks to discern if he is bringing a snare or temptation. We discern which spirit we are dealing with. If we have grace, it is God’s Spirit. If we have lost our peace, man’s spirit is not lined up with God’s Spirit and His perfect will. We most likely have some sin that has taken our peace. If we have torment and confusion, it is satan’s spirit at work.

    It is imperative that we get honest with God, ourselves and men about ourselves. This is truly the only assured way that we can follow the course that brings peace of mind, strength of spirit and joy of heart. The results of walking in the Spirit produces in us the unity with God. As we have done our part in drawing closer to God, so it is that He does His part in drawing closer to us. He gives unto us: (a) spiritual insight; (b) Divine revelation; (c) direct guidance; (d) discernment of the thoughts and intents of the heart: of ourselves and of those around us in need; (e) dreams, and interpretation of dreams; (f) visions, and interpretation of visions; (g) prophecy; (h) wisdom; (i) knowledge; (j) gifts of healing; (k) workings of miracles. If we do not walk in the Spirit in the manner in which God instructs us to do so, we will know loneliness of spirit and experience separation. This is not because God did not do His part; but because we did not do ours. Loneliness of spirit comes when God is silent to one who has known His voice. We fear separation from God only when we are not communicating with Him on a continual basis. When we walk in the Spirit, we will have the mind of Christ and we will know God’s ways. We are not ignorant of satan’s devices. Satan will have no way to trip our feet when we walk in the Spirit, because God will be keeping our feet from falling. Satan only gets an advantage over us when we are ignorant of His devices. When we walk in the Spirit, it is not our heel that is bruised, but satan’s. When we walk in the Spirit, we will react the right way to our circumstances, because we will be reacting Christ-like.

    Walking in the Spirit gives us the protecting relationship with God:

    1.   Physically: we walk in Divine health;

    2.   Mentally: we have the mind of Christ;

    3.   Spiritually: we have the Holy Spirit within;

    4.   Emotionally: we have the love of God.

    It is then that God gives us the producing relationship with man, as God speaks:

    1.   through our bodies: using example, in order to lead others;

    2.   through our minds: using Divine revelation, in order to encourage others;

    3.   through our spirits: using spiritual insight, in order to instruct others;

    4.   through our hearts: using the Divine flow of love, in order to heal others.

    It is in this producing relationship with man that we find the true supernatural; and absolve the superficial and super-spiritual. The measure of the superficial and the super-spiritual is humility. The superficial abuses the fruits of the Spirit; while the super-spiritual abuses the gifts. These are carnal attributes done solely for their own gain of man. Whereas, the supernatural is the balanced use of the fruits and gifts, done solely for God’s gain. The old saints will accept God’s use of a younger convert only when it comes forth in the spirit of humility, speaking the truth in love. This humility is the factor whereby we realize that it is not man that speaks or does the works; but God within the man.

    The Crucified Life is not for those who are content to remain spiritually immature, only to know God’s acts, and feed on the milk of the Spirit. It is for those who are desirous of growing into spiritual maturity, to know the ways of God and feed on the meat. Once we’ve had the meat to chew on, we cannot be satisfied with being spoon-fed with the milk. We can no longer ride upon another’s experience; but must move upon the individual path that God prepares for us. He takes our personal makeup into consideration and deals with us as individuals. Our God is an individually concerned God. We can choose to remain weak in the Spirit by leaning upon man: his concepts, teachings, wisdom, laws, and standards of right and wrong. Or we can grow strong in the Spirit by leaning upon God: His concepts, His teachings, His wisdom, His laws and His standards of right and wrong. We will walk in the Spirit and experience unity only so long as our complete dependency is in God. When we transfer our dependency to man, it is then that we cease to walk in the Spirit and thus experience separation. The unity or separation will come only to those that seek the Crucified Life; the way of the Cross. If you want to remain a babe, just to know God’s acts, to be spoon-fed on the milk of the Spirit: it will cost you very little of your own desires and leave you in your own image. But if you desire to grow up in God, to know God’s ways, and chew on the meat of the Spirit: it will cost you the crucifixion of your own desires and perfect you into the image of Christ. We can keep a part of our life, and gain only a part of His. Or we can give all of our life, to gain all of His.

    SPIRITUAL BLINDNESS

    There are two kinds of spiritual blindness: (1) groping in total complete blindness; and (2) blurred vision, distorted images. People with the first blindness are the unsaved; who grope in total darkness without the Light of the Gospel. People with the second blindness are those who have received salvation, yet have not advanced in the things of the Spirit. These are the ones who need to have clarity of vision and have their image of God brought into proper perspective. Our image of God towards us determines our standard of love towards others. If we view God as compassionate and longsuffering in His love towards us, we will interpret others’ love for us by the same token, and will express our love in the same manner. Whereas, if we view God as authoritative, we will interpret love received and express love given in like fashion. We can only respond in the way we have been taught to respond; or by the particular temperament way of responding in our natural man. A dog responds to love by wagging his tail, licking faces. A cat responds by purring, rubbing legs. These animals respond to love by inherent, natural responses. They express love the only way they know how. It would be necessary to train them to get responses in any other fashion. This is true even as with carnal man, responding to natural temperament methods. Only by the power of God, moving by His Spirit, or through His Word, can man’s spiritual nature be trained to respond in Christ-like fashion.

    Only as we dwell in the Word do we learn the correct standard of love. The Word tells us of the balanced character of God. This enables us to maintain a balanced image of God. In our image of God lies our true standard of love. For, God is love. In the second form of spiritual blindness, man is given a choice: (1) to stay; or (2) to be led until they can see clearly, as the Holy Spirit takes the controlling interest. These people do not realize they are blind until they come in contact with someone who can see clearly. Until someone comes with the Light and shines it round about them. People with blurred (limited) vision into spiritual matters will be as one viewing ‘men as trees walking’. It takes one who has clarity of vision to express and describe what it is to ‘see all men clearly’. It is in this contrast of vision, that people are exposed to the deeper truths of the Spirit. They are also given the choice to stay in the Light they have; or be led into greater areas of Light. We will only advance in God’s Spirit as far as our own (man’s) spirit is willing to go. The blindness will remain until our desire to see clearly prevails; and we grow hungry enough in spirit to pay the price. We are to be ‘a living epistle, known and read of all men’. We, by realistic example, are to cause people to hunger after righteousness. This is in order that they may be filled with the Spirit; and that they may grasp what is the heighth, breadth and depth of the Spirit-filled life.

    COMMITTAL AND CONSECRATION

    Committal is our action unto God. (Phil 2:8) ‘And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death; even unto the death of the Cross’. Humility comes before honor; and honesty comes before holiness. We are to humble ourselves and become obedient, even as Jesus did with His particular Cross. There are blessings in obedience, both for us and for God. As God pours out His anointing of love upon us, we in turn become ‘meet for the Master’s use’ in service. Thereby bringing us the blessings from God; and God the blessings from us. God causes us to commit ourselves to His will. Then He sends one to consecrate us to His work. This results in Divine compensation upon our lives. Consecration brings compensation.

    In the brokenness of spirit, there we find the beauty of the soul. For God sees beauty in the bruising. He makes our sorrows to become channels of joy as we behold His order and plan for our lives. As we follow the example of Jesus, we submit our will unto the Father. Then He sends one to stand in the office of a prophet (as Moses did with Aaron) to anoint us for a greater work in His service, and to command a blessing upon us. The reason for the anointing upon Aaron was so that he could minister the power of God effectively to the people, in the absence of Moses. Blessing and anointing: These are God’s actions unto us. Scripture speaks concerning Moses with Aaron: (Exodus 29:7) ‘Then shalt thou take the anointing oil, pour it upon his head, and anoint him’. (Exodus 30:30) ‘And thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons; and consecrate them, that they may minister unto Me in the priest’s office. Thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying This shall be a holy anointing oil unto Me throughout your generations’. (Ps 133:1-3) ‘Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity. It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard; that went down to the skirts of his garments; as the dew of Hermon. As the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion. For there the Lord commanded the blessing: even life forevermore’.

    ADVANCEMENT IN HIM

    God requires different things of people at different stages of their spiritual growth. With His own disciples, He first sent them out without script or shoes. Later, He had them go forth with script and shoes. God wants a willing, pliable vessel in His hands. One bent on doing His will and bidding, regardless of how often it changes. Our motive to please God must remain stable, although our methods of pleasing Him will change according to advancing stages of spiritual maturity. What He requires of us at one level of learning, or in one series of circumstances, may not be true of the next situation. Not every change in our methodology is meant to be permanent. Often when we learn what God is trying to teach us, we are allowed to go onto other things and profit from the experience. But not live in it the rest of our lives in exactly the same manner and way.

    PROPER FOCUS

    When we read God’s Word, pray, walk in God’s Spirit and focus on Jesus consistently, we then have access to the mind of Christ. Thereby seating us in Heavenly places with Him. We can either be in the problem, looking up to God’s Sovereignty. Or we can be seated with God, looking down at the problem with the mind of Christ. It is much more rewarding to sit in Heavenly places and look at natural issues from God’s viewpoint; than to sit in the midst of our natural issues and try to ‘assume’ God’s will with our own limited, finite, human viewpoint. Only as we dwell in the Word of God and have fellowship with His Spirit through prayer, can we be walking in the Spirit consistently. Our focus must always be on Jesus. Through these processes, we can learn to know what Jesus thinks of us; and how Jesus thinks in dealing with life’s situations. With the mind of Christ at our disposal, we can move in the Spirit of God and discern with accuracy the measures of trials and the methods of deliverance at our disposal as well.

    REASONING AND MOTIVE: HUMANLY OR GODLY?

    It is very disturbing to the human soul to worry over things that haven’t even happened yet. When one prepares in God, then one will have grace when it is needed. Life is a two-way street: benefits vs. burdens. We can choose to have peace of mind or turmoil of mind. To carry a grudge or to walk in forgiveness. We should not overtax ourselves with worries that are not ours to assume. We must throw out the seeds and let God do the necessary watering for our spiritual development and nourishment in Him. Often, we move in our own devices, not necessarily asking God first how to handle a situation. If we pursue our own human reasoning without consulting God’s will, the results can be devastating to us. God cannot be blamed for the outcome. Man should seek God’s counsel before pursuing a decision; be objective to God’s restraints and checks; and wait for God’s answer. Then the results will be God’s will, and not man’s. God will then extend grace to the persons involved in the situation. God’s ways and methods do not produce bondage. When your slate is clean before God, you will have peace in your heart despite the opposing circumstances.
