Instant Pot Cookbook - Monet Chapin

    What is an Instant Pot?

Have you ever used a pressure cooker before? If your answer is yes, then learning how to cook with an Instant Pot shouldn’t be very difficult for you. If this is all new stuff for you, don’t worry! I will walk you through all the necessary steps that you need to know in order to use an Instant Pot.

The Instant Pot is a digital pressure cooker that allows you to cook different types of foods. However, unlike conventional pressure cookers, the Instant Pot provides many functionalities like rice cooker, slow cooker, steamer, yogurt maker, browning pan, and warming pot. Thus, this kitchen appliance can help you save a lot of money because you don’t need to buy other kitchen appliances. Plus, you save time because your meals are cooked faster than other pressure cookers.

    Features

The Instant Pot is unlike any other type of pressure cooker.  While a pressure cooker is a pot with a sealed lid and valve that traps pressure, the Instant Pot is so much more.

    General Features

It boasts of its many cook buttons that will allow you to cook different types of foods perfectly. Dubbed as a multi-use gadget, this digital pressure cooker can be used as a rice-cooker, steamer, sauté pan and slow-cooker all in one. Below are the features why the Instant Pot is considered to be the paragon of all pressure cookers.

Safety mechanisms: The Instant Pot has several safety mechanisms. It has a pressure sensor mechanism that detects if there is too much pressure within the pot and it automatically controls the pressure by releasing some of it. It also has a thermostat within the inner lining of the pot that allows you to determine the exact temperature inside the pot. Lastly, it has a quick pressure release that releases the pressure from inside the pot instantaneously.

Multi-functional programmable settings: You can use the Instant Pot by pushing the programmable button so you can cook certain types of food at a pre-set time and pressure. These preset buttons include soup, meat/stew, bean/chili, poultry, rice, multigrain, porridge, and steam. There are also other buttons that increase the functionality of the cooker and these include keep warm/cancel, manual, sauté, adjust, yogurt, pressure, timer, and the + & - buttons.

Delay cooking timer: So, let’s say you want your food cooked by the time you arrive home. You can set the delayed cooking timer of the Instant Pot up to 24 hours so that your food cooks at the time you intend it to cook.

Brushed stainless steel exterior: For that sleek finish, the Instant Pot comes with a finger-print resistant stainless steel exterior, so clean up is very easy.

Comes with nifty accessories: It also comes with nifty accessories, such as the steam rack with handles, condensation collector, silicone mitts, rice paddle, measuring cup, and soup spoon.

1000W heating element: Instant Pot comes with a 1000W heating element so you can cook your food faster than conventional pots and pressure cookers.

Instant Pot allows you to save time and money because, instead of buying different types of appliances, you can use it to cook different types of food. Moreover, your food cooks faster so you also save time, effort and energy while preparing your favorite dishes.

    Safety Features

Unlike conventional pressure cookers, the Instant Pot is designed to avoid potential problems. So, you can be assured that you are safe while using this kitchen appliance. In fact, the Instant Pot comes with several safety features that are incorporated into this particular digital pressure cooker.

Lid close detection: If the lid is not properly closed, the Instant Pot does not activate the pressurized cooking. In fact, you can only use the sauté and keep warm button if the lid is not secured in place.

Leaky lid protection: A leaking lid means that the pressure cooker will not reach the preset level, thus the food will continue to cook until it burns because the amount of liquid dries up inside. With the Instant Pot, you will definitely know if your lid has leaks because it can measure the pre-heating time and detect any changes in the pressure. If there are leaks, then the pressure will not build up inside the pot. As a result, the Instant Pot will switch to keep warm to avoid burning the food.

Anti-blocking vent: Small food particles can jam the steam vent and can cause problems when releasing steam and pressure. The Instant Pot comes with a built-in vent shield that prevents food particles from getting inside the vent and clogging it.

Temperature control: The Instant Pot comes with a built-in thermostat found under the inner pot. The thermostat regulates the temperature so that it is within a safe range based on the preset temperature chosen. On the other hand, if your Instant Pot is operating with too little moisture, the pressure inside the pot can build up, thus causing the inside to overheat. The Instant Pot will automatically stop heating if it detects the temperature is over its limit.

Lid lock under pressure: If the pressure cooker is pressurized, then the lid is locked into place to avoid one from accidentally opening it and getting scalded by the hot steam. The lid will only open if the pressure inside the pot has normalized.

Pressure regulation: The maximum operating pressure of the Instant Pot is at 11.6 PSI. If the pressure exceeds this limit, then the steam release will automatically be pushed up to let the extra steam and pressure escape from inside the pot. Now, if the pressure becomes too high and this safety feature malfunctions, the Instant Pot comes with an internal protection mechanism that shifts the inner pot downwards to create a gap between the lid and the inner pot to accommodate the high pressure.

The dubious safety of conventional pressure cookers is the main reason why most people don’t want to use them to cook their food. However, the safety features of the Instant Pot will definitely make you feel at ease when using the pressure cooker.

How To Use The Instant Pot
