Chapter 1 Sean

Sean and Lauren met each other the hard way. They were in Art School, hurrying to a class, and loaded with books in their hands. They went around a corner going opposite ways, and ran into each other. Books flew, and Lauren would have fallen, but Sean grabbed and held her.

They apologized to each other as they were picking up their books.

When they finally got their books picked up, Sean said to Lauren, Let me make this up to you. What time do you get out of class?

Five. she told him.

He told her, So do I. If you will meet me at the soda shop, I will buy.

It's a date. she told him. By the way, I'm Lauren.

I'm Sean. he told her. Five o'clock at the soda shop, then?

I will be there. she told him.

Lauren arrived at the soda shop first and set down in a booth by the window. The shop was already filled with students who had just got out of school.

Sean arrived a few minutes later. Everybody turned and looked when he walked in the door.

Sean was tall and handsome. He was very obviously Irish with red hair and freckles and he had an infectious smile.

He walked over to Lauren's table, set down, and said, Sorry I couldn't get here before now. The teacher wanted to see me. It wasn't anything major. How long have you been waiting?

She told him, I've only been waiting a couple of minutes.

Good. he told her, motioned to a waitress, and ordered a couple of sodas. Then he turned to Lauren and told her, Please tell me about yourself. I'm dying to know.

Lauren told him, I'm a senior in the art school. I'm studying to be a landscape artist. I have painted and sold some paintings, although I didn't make much off them.

She continued, I come from a small town, about a hundred miles north of London, called Arkham. My father is a disabled veteran. My stepmother works at a laundry. Arkham and the surrounding area are beautiful and scenic. There are many quaint cottages and lovely homes, stately trees, and flowery areas. I love being there. Many of my pictures are scenes of Arkham and the surrounding area.

I am sorry, but I just started a new job as a waitress, and I have to be to work at seven o'clock this evening. she told him. But, you are going to have to tell me about yourself first.

Sean told her, I will tell you about myself, but first, you are going to have to tell me now when we can meet again. I don't want you to run off and leave me wondering if I will ever see you again.

Lauren told him, My days off are Sunday and Monday. Would you like to meet here, Sunday?

Perfect. he told her. Same time?
