Chapter 1 - Introduction

Bill Chase was out of a job. He had worked quite a while as a temporary laborer at a house building firm, but they had finally hired another carpenter and no longer needed him.

He looked through the help wanted section of the paper and saw an ad: Help wanted, General laborer at a girl's summer camp. Three week contract, possible full summer employment. Bill was intrigued, called and got the details. He went down and filled out an employment resume. He was surprised and happy when he got a telephone call asking him to come in for a job interview.

Bill went and met Edna Smith, his interviewer. She asked him to take a seat then started. Mr. Chase, I am going to be honest with you. You are the last of the applicants. Most of them were young, high school, college, applying for a life guard position. A couple of them were older and married with family commitments. Your application indicates that you are single, unattached, and available to spend your summer, camping with us. Is that correct?

Yes. said Bill. I am currently without a job. I love camping, so this would seem more like a vacation than a job. I have no girl friend or anything else that ties me to the city. Only a small apartment, for which I will pay up my rent before I leave for the summer.
