Description

Chapter 9: Jane is feeling better. Mrs. Bennet and Kydia come to visit and determine that Jane isn't well enough to leave Netherfield. Mrs. Bennet and Darcy duke it out over the merits of country vs. town, among other things. Lydia requests a ball at Netherfield. Highlights include: we're still anti-Darcy, Lydia's age, dancing balls, and singing valentines.

Chapter 10: Evening parlour time. DOES CAROLINE HAVE A CROOSH?? Bingley makes fun of Darcy for being a try hard. Darcy just stares at Lizzy. Caroline and Darcy go for a walk, and she tries to talk shit about Lizzy to him. Highlights include: Nathan Pyle ( https://twitter.com/nathanwpyle?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor ) , did you write Pride and Prejudice? Leanne, Molly's 7th grade history teacher, four-syllable words, the power of friendship, more Mean Girls references, and the danger of love.

Chapter 11: Jane comes downstairs! Bingley attends only to her, while Caroline reads over Darcy's shoulder. They discuss the ball, and Caroline tries (and fails) to show off for Darcy. Lizzy wants to poke fun at him, but Darcy admits to his shortcomings. Highlights include: white soup, vanity vs. pride, and Fitzwilliam?!?

Chapter 12: Lizzy begs her mom to let them come home, but Mrs. B won't have it. They plan instead to borrow Bingley's carriage the next day. Darcy changes tactics in a STUPID way. Mr. Bennet is happy his smart daughters are home. Highlights include: Waiting for you is like waiting for rain in this drought, useless and disappointing.

Study Questions:

Mrs. Bennet vs. Darcy: He's behaving like her punching bag. She's holding a grudge and not holding her tongue.

Bingley and Jane: Lizzy approves. We've gotten a lot about how Bingley feels but not much about how Jane feels.

Bingley's faults: He's soft, he's sweet, but he doesn't want to be affected by things. He doesn't want to feel too deeply or get attached to any place. He lacks a sense of self.

Caroline's CROOSH: Maybe she thinks she's impressing him by being the worst.

Darcy's CROOSH: Molly is prejudiced against Darcy because he's a rich, tall man who has trouble moving beyond social status.

Funniest quote: "I wonder who first discovered the efficacy of poetry in driving away love."

Question moving forward: The Bingley sisters are fucking shit up.  How will Caroline and Lizzy's relationship develop? What's next now that they're home?

Who wins the chapters? Caroline loses so hard she wins.
