What’s it about?
It wasn’t so long ago that advertising, marketing, and branding were simply a case of budget. The big brands threw money at the issue and retained their market share by constantly being in view. Advertisers repeated their messages until they became ingrained in the nation’s conscience, as we can attest when we find ourselves whistling an advertising jingle from our childhood.
But, as with most areas of life, technology has changed the way that marketing works. These days we can skip past commercials, and watch TV when we want, how we want. Instead, much of the work of building a brand takes place online, on social media platforms and via electronic media. This shift toward more technologically-focused lives has also changed how our customers behave; it is widely believed that the average attention span of a human, once coming in at around 20 minutes, has dropped dramatically since the birth of the internet. In fact, a recent Microsoft study has concluded that, thanks to the immediate nature of the internet and the speed at which information is now available to us, the average attention span has shrunk to just eight seconds!
In a world where the average attention span is eight seconds, your message has to capture your audience immediately—it has to hypnotize; it has to fascinate. Luckily, being fascinating does not cost big bucks, nor does it
