I am on a journey to become the best version of myself that I can be. I like to encourage others to do the same, not to become someone else because they feel that who they are isn’t enough, but to explore who they are and all they can be and to realise that they are more than enough, yet constantly growing and becoming better and better if that is what they choose.I enjoy reading, watching series and movies, spending time with family and friends, good wine, coffee, sushi and Italian food. I love music, both playing instruments and listening to it and I am fascinated by health and fitness.

    Chapter 1: Introduction

Often we may think that we are doing okay only to find out later that this isn’t really the case. Perhaps your joints started aching, or you realised that you need to go out and buy bigger clothes. You may have gone to the doctor for a check-up, only to find that your health is going downhill. The fact that you are reading this book is a good sign. You have realised that there is a need for change, and are either scoping things out or have already decided to get healthy. These are the first steps. It is my hope and prayer that this book will be able to give you some insight on how to get started.

Getting healthy is often seen as a difficult and often boring drag. It doesn’t have to be that way though. I am not going to lie and say there won’t be times where it will be hard, and sometimes boring; but the majority of the time, the small changes you make and incorporate into your life can yield great results, and become second nature. You yourself can make it as interesting or boring as you want. If you really are serious about getting healthy, the time is now. Don’t put it off. As anyone who has ever set out to do something (or didn’t but intended to) can tell you that tomorrow just keeps on coming, and next week, and next month, until we look back and a year has gone by and we still haven’t started.

I want to emphasise the fact that you need to love yourself to do this. I don’t mean to sound ‘mushy’, but it is a fact. You need to understand and accept that you are worth it. You can do this, because you deserve to be healthy. I also want to state the fact that you may have this end picture in mind of what you want to look like. Don’t let that be the driving force for becoming healthy. You make the healthy changes, and your body will naturally slim down, or you will gain the necessary weight, and your body will become the way it’s meant to be when it is healthy. Being skinny isn’t necessarily a reflection of health. Rather eat well, stay active, be happy and good health will then follow.

It’s also important to give you a realistic expectation with regards to your body shape. While you can alter your natural body shape to a certain degree, it is mostly determined by your genes. In my case, I will never be tall and slim. I am short, and somewhat stocky. If I train my body, I will be of medium build and well-toned, but I won’t ever achieve a slim body like many of the models have, at least not without my bones sticking out everywhere. You may wish to be curvier but even if you picked up weight, the way in which your fat gets distributed in a certain way, which
