What’s it about?
Psychologist Carol Dweck has spent years studying the way people think. In the course of her years of research and the many workshops she has conducted, she has reached the conclusion that a person’s mindset is a crucial factor in determining whether they succeed or fail throughout their life.
Her book Mindset explores the idea that there are two fundamental mindsets which dictate how people think, feel, and act in every aspect of their lives. A person who has what she terms a fixed
mindset will be seriously hampered in their development and success, whereas a person with a growth
mindset is much more likely to succeed and learn from their experiences.
Dweck believes that understanding the difference between these mindsets and learning how to change from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset can make us happier people who are able to take control of our life, make the most of exciting new opportunities, and ultimately attain success. It can also help us teach our kids to learn, grow, and succeed: armed with this information, parents, teachers, and coaches can help children learn to navigate the world successfully and have fun in the process.
