Introduction
Hello human. I assume you want to improve some aspect of your life and find yourself in the need of information on the subject. But not just any information; a condensed, solid compilation of facts and theories that bypass the fog of the internet. Something that has all the necessary ingredients in the simplest form, focusing on the important things and sparring you the specifics. If you want to drill down to the atomic level and have detailed explanation of every process, then sadly this book is not for you. However if you want a solid foundation of knowledge beneath your feet, then I suggest you thoroughly examine its contents. This is a tutorial, and unless you know the rules, you better pay attention.
So, you've picked this up with the hope of becoming the living version of Mount Everest, but let me crush those dreams from the get go: This book can't do anything, you have to do it yourself. That’s right. I don't know you, I can't provide you with a solution. I can only give you the tools necessary for it. Face it, you are unique, alone, the first and the last of your kind, you have to make your own discoveries for what works and what doesn't. On the other hand, there are some general rules and guidelines that will make the task easier and point you in the right direction.
If you haven't figured it out from the title, this book is targeted towards gamers; people that have a statistically lower physical activity levels than others. This doesn't mean that the information here won't do you any good if you've never played a game, it only means that you might not get everything I'm saying. Still, considering that we live in a digital age, most of the terms should be fairly familiar to you.
Keep in mind that I won't be providing you with references, reason being that in order to write this book I scoured through countless articles written by doctors and bodybuilders alike, cross referenced a ton of books, read anything ranging from medical research to lab rat experiments and even scratched the surface of the Deep Web for some clarity. The reason for this is not only because the amount of references I'd have to put up can rival Wikipedia, but also because generally nobody reads them. So in the interest of saving my time and not wasting yours, you'll just have to take my word for the things I say. Some of them have been well known for years, some have been recently discovered and some of them are my own theories derived from experimentation on myself. Ultimately though it falls on you to minmax your body.
Truth is, that despite humanity's technological advances, the human body still retains some mysteries. Not everything is known, and as such I can't say that the accuracy of the facts here is unquestionable, but then again, nothing is. For this reason it's best to just look at the surface.
The body is a complex machine derived from countless evolutionary cycles, it has the system variety of a spaceship and yet the simplicity of a knife. Think of it as a robot, a beast, or better yet - a Terminator. Your brain is the control center and your body is the operator. This book contains information necessary to boost those engines and sharpen that edge - to level up. And yes, just like in games, it's a grind. There is no way around it, if you want to change your character's appearance and stats you must first pass through the meat grinder. Life is a hardcore game, and improving it requires a hardcore mindset. Let's begin the transformation from an ant into a beast.
Stress
Before we dive into the nitty gritty stuff, we must first establish the meaning of a variable that the efficacy of this book hinges on: stress. (Note that there are several different definitions, the one I'm going to present you with, is mine) What is stress? In general terms, stress is everything. The world around you, the food you eat, your emotional state, the amount of sleep you get, even walking and the polluted air you breathe all generate a certain level of stress. It cannot be numerically measured, but every irritant you either create yourself or come in contact with, is a stressor. Overeating creates stress on your digestive system, weight lifting creates stress on your muscles, nerves and bones, heck, solving problems creates stress on your brain. The important thing is that stress isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's the sole driver behind the evolution of species, different environments demand different mechanisms to cope with the irritants present in it. Of course that doesn't mean that eating Arsenic can have benefits.
I've come to the conclusion that the human body has a two part sequence to deal with stress. Reconstruction and Adaptation. Reconstruction is the phase when the body starts recovery and healing of the damaged system. For example healing tissue damage like a skin cut or a bruise, eliminating accumulated toxins, reforming muscle fibers and so on. This happens after a stressor has destabilized the equilibrium in your body, and as a response the body strives to restore the status quo. A lack of such mechanism would mean that healing wouldn't be possible, and death could come in the form of something as innocent as a paper cut; it is a rupture of the skin and if the body doesn't strive to restore the original state of the organ, you'll just keep bleeding.
Adaptation on the other hand is the phase when the body develops a mechanism that will somehow reduce the effect of a stressor in the event of future irritation. For example the immune system is better prepared to handle a sickness the second time, than it was the first time or when bones are thickened in order to support
