    Diet and Weight Loss Introduction

If you simply take a look outside you will probably notice that more and more people are addicted to the Standard American Diet, also known as the SAD diet. What is the SAD diet exactly? How does it affect you? If you look around, you’ll see plenty of fast food restaurants, and plenty of unhealthy snacks at the grocery store. In some cases this is a meal of convenience. After all, we need to eat and run these days. The thing to remember however, is that the ingredients for a healthy diet are still quite available, even if it is a bit more expensive. In addition to that, you can rather easily create your own healthy diet if you have the right information. Our problem is simply that we have become far too reliant upon convenience meals such as TV dinners and even fast food from various restaurants. Sadly this applies to the rest of the world, even if they tend to eat a bit healthier. It is also important to keep in mind certain ingredients banned in the United Kingdom are perfectly legal in the United States, even though they might be dangerous(yes, we’re looking at you Yellow #5). That being said, it is important for you to sort through the different foods, and create your own diet from the recipes found in this book or others.

A large part of this book is dedicated to wheat free dieting, otherwise known as gluten free dieting. Gluten, contrary to popular belief, is not one substance. Instead, it is a group of storage proteins often found in wheat, rye, and barley. Gluten is a protein found in the mature seeds, as well as close relatives of wheat. Something to note is that while ‘gluten’ might be a word used to define rice, rice protein is not actually in the gluten family. If you want to avoid gluten entirely, you will not need to cut rice out of your diet, regardless of what you are told. Oats on the other hand are a completely different story. Though oats do not typically contain gluten, there is often cross contamination resulting from the handling process.

There is no real reason to avoid gluten, unless you simply prefer not to eat it. There are many who claim that it helps them avoid the temptation of processed snack foods, though this will depend on the individual. Other than that, it has no real benefit, though to be honest, removing the temptation of processed foods will become a significant step in the right direction.

In addition to covering the gluten free diet, this book will help to cover the vegan diet aspect. For example, how much does it cost to go vegan? Is it really healthy? These may be questions that fester at the back of your mind, but getting a clear answer is never going to be easy. From the entree, to the side dish, and even soup, we try to give you straight answers, allowing you to focus on the most important thing of all: getting your diet into gear.

This book will also cover the concept of seasonal drinks, and even deserts. One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding diets, even the gluten free diet, is that you cannot partake in any form of desert. This however, is not true. First of all, there may be instances in which you can reward yourself so long as you are not rewarding yourself every single day. In addition to that there are plenty of gluten free deserts and low fat desserts that you might take advantage of. This book will explain the process of creating these concoctions and will ultimately allow you to have a well rounded meal.

One of the biggest problems with dieting is the fact that many people believe they need to deprive themselves of nearly all food. They drink health shakes, eat energy bars, or simply cut down to one meal per day. While having an energy bar might not necessarily be a bad thing, there is really no reason to replace all of your meals with it. The point of dieting is not to starve yourself! This is a common misconception that needs to be uprooted. If you starve yourself, you face a number of additional problems, many of which have nothing to do with weight. Temptation is one of those problems, but what about other health issues? You might feel light headed, and passing out in public becomes a real possibility. Rather than depriving yourself of food entirely, why not take advantage of these great recipes, and ultimately give yourself the ability to lose weight while feeling happy. If you ask friends on fad diets, they might tell you that is utterly impossible, but now you know better!

We’re not saying that this book is the definitive answer for all of your problems, not by any means. Rather, this book is intended to be your guide on a new weight loss journey. You might use these recipes, or you might choose to use another book entirely. In the end however, you have a goal, a goal to lose as much weight as possible. Whether or not you meet that goal lies in one set of hands: yours. Take responsibility now, and give yourself the break you deserve. The most important thing to remember of course, is that while you might embark on your dietary journey, you will not see immediate results. Your results, in fact, might take several weeks, or up to a month to manifest. In spite of that, you will begin to feel better about yourself immediately, and you will undoubtedly begin to feel healthier. It’s all in your diet.
