I look at the face, which has always been dear to me. Outside, lightning cracks and the curtains flutter’s wildly in the wind. The tubes and the wires surrounding her are no more able to support her life, and I see a flicker of hope in those almost lifeless eyes. My eyes are teary, and I am unable to hide them away from her. She efficiently wipes away the tears and whispers, I know, child, a sob escapes my mouth, and I lay my head on her sighing and heaving chest, Don’t leave me, ma. I won’t be able to live like this, without you. Please, don’t! Listen to me, baby, she says, and I raise my head to meet her glare, We already knew about my state, didn’t we? I nod in acceptance and shaking violently, hug her around the neck. I am not about to let her go, especially not now, when I need her the most. This is why I always wanted you to get married before I say, goodbye. She whispers, and I am still crying. Why, ma? I ask, Why didn’t you tell me everything before? I did, she says, but I cut her, You did, but when I saw the report myself! Only then, did you come out with the truth. I am sorry, she whispers and coughs a little, How much time, did the doctor say, I have? Tonight, I utter the doomed words out and see the sympathy in that glare for me. I am sorry, Ra Ma, I say and caress her face with my hand, I love you, I love you too, baby. I love you so much, sweetheart. Please forgive me for not disclosing everything at the start. I had never imagined that the weakness will come back after so many years. After your dad died, I imagined the virus to be over but, she can say no more, and I don’t even push her. With a sigh and a smile, she kisses, the tip of my fingertip and then, closes her eyes. There is a calm and cool expression on her face, and in a moment, as I keep on looking at her, she has departed for heaven! My creator is released from the chain of worldly bondages and without controlling myself; I hug her lifeless body and let out a huge sob. Mum is no more!

Flames touch the light air and leave their mark on my heart. Surrounded by friends and well-wishers, I am still cold deep inside the heart.
